Empire Classic Thread- Heading To The Big Apple!

I have purchased tickets for both Empire Classic games on Sunday November 19 and both games Monday November 20. I used the ticket info Blades posted here in the other thread, and went to the Ticketmaster link and got mobile tickets (mainly because they had a bigger selection of available seats and I chose my aisle seats):
Paid around $400 for 4 tickets to the Sunday games and another $200 for the 2 tickets to the Monday games. Midcourt, higher sections. My plan is to take Monday and Tuesday off from work, and book a hotel in that Madison Square neighborhood/Empire State Building Neighborhood. I checked Priceline and there is an amazing number of hotels $150 and under per night within 10 blocks of Madison Square Garden. I will post further hotel information in my next post.

Football Jim Mora Jr. ranked as a Tier 5 HC per The Athletic

Vannini:
This group includes several coaches with high marks in a small sample size who could move up a tiers quickly (Aranda, Beamer, Elko, Lanning, Sumrall, Wommack) and others with a longer run of solid results (Candle, McElwain, Mora, Houston, Helton, Hoke, Kill, Stockstill). Jerry Kill is 165-110 as a head coach and has righted the ship at several places, like Northern Illinois and Minnesota. Last year he took New Mexico State to its second bowl game in six decades.

Jim Mora adds veteran NFL DC to his staff

"UConn......announced the hiring of John Pagano.... as special assistant to the head coach. Pagano was the San Diego Chargers' defensive coordinator from 2012-16 and the Raiders' assistant head coach – defense coordinator in 2017. Pagano most recently served as the outside linebacker coach with the Denver Broncos in 2020 and 2021 ".......He's the brother of Chuck Pagano the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

Uconn hoops schedule 2023-24

Well since Uconn won't be going to the Big 12 and their new members in AZ ( including vs. DH's brother Bobby, his former asst). Uconn MBB decided to play an AZ team anyway ( with another former DH asst Tim Russo - "Mad Dogs" son) as the season opener ( ? ) at home vs. NAU on Monday Nov 6th..... per NAU's schedule-

Other Big East Action & Roster Moves

Last night Georgetown snapped a 21 game losing streak with a 99-89 OT win over Coppin State. While an OT win over Coppin State is not normally a reason to rejoice, it snapped an embarrassing losing streak and Akok Akok had 18 points, 12 boards, 5 blocks and 2 assists and looks like he could even be a main man player for the Hoyas. A big concern, however, is that 4 starters played 42 minutes or more, which is not what you want to have to do against a team like Coppin State.

In other action, Providence nipped an experienced Rider team 66-65 at home. This is not what Ed Cooley really wanted to see, but he did escape with the W

CBS Sports Acknowledges Error In Reporting on UConn!

Another CBS report on UConn and another error, but Lo and behold a first! I suspected an error was made in the first edition of this article on CR, and it was finally acknowledged in this editor's correction note at the end of the article:

"Correction: An earlier version of this story stated UConn self-appointed its slogan as the "Basketball Capital of the World," but similar wording was first used by Dick Vitale on a UConn men's basketball broadcast in 1995."

Dickie V is now being credited with originating that slogan (along with many others), and I remember him saying it on the air. Did Dickie V get spoon fed the slogan by someone in the UConn AD at the time? Maybe. But it doesn't matter. It stuck and he got the credit for it.

I am guessing ESPN's counsel sent CBS a letter informing it of the mistake.

Sportsbook and Bar @ the XL Center-to open in Sept

State of CT and XL Center are set to open their "gaming operation" at Uconn's home away from home.

"The betting and sports bar may open as soon as Sept. 2 and will welcome all patrons whether or not they are attending an event at the XL. Open seven days a week, the hours are still being determined, but are likely to be 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. Event ticketholders will be able to move between the arena and the betting venue by presenting their ticket."
