I can't find a single thing on this guy. Is he a walk-on type talent or maybe a notch below RJ Evans?
247Sports ranks him the 285th best prospect in the class of 2016.
I hope Purvis doesn't leave. He may be able to get a pro job somewhere but he isn't NBA ready at this time and due to his weak handle might never be. He does have an NBA body and might eventually make a roster as a defensive and 3 point shooting specialist, but not out of the gate. He should stay at UConn and develop his game (he is improved since last year). And so should Hamilton. They are not ready for the NBA at this time.

Realistically, the starters at UConn next year will be Jalen Adams and Alterique Gilbert. Gilbert looks very ready to me. However, that leaves UConn with no experienced guards at all, except Adams who will have less than a half season under his belt of starting. Cassell probably will not be back either- meaning if Purvis, Calhoun and Cassell all leave, there is literally no guard depth at all. None.
So maybe another grad transfer will be in order, or a JUCO guy? Nobody seems very concerned about this, but it is troubling. You can't have a team with only 2 guards that can play. It will not work.

CaNOLEE 247Sports has him ranked #285, you think they could be that wrong? I mean there is over 210 guys he would have to leapfrog to even get to #75. I don't recall UConn ever offering a scholly to someone who was #285 or lower.
I agree he looks better than that in video but how can 247 be that wrong? Are we missing something here or getting bamboozled somehow?
I am feeling a little jaded because I have been watching a little too much of the Presidential campaign debates/speeches/other nonsense and I end up shutting off the TV saying I didn't believe a damn thing I just heard. Now I find myself disbelieving video too.

Khalid, I trust the coaches more than the guys evaluating for these sites. Maybe he didn't camp or play AAU and flew under the radar. Or he could be a late bloomer(growth spurt, etc...). If we lose both Purvis and Cassell, we need two guards at minimum and 3 would be more ideal. Be it from the juco ranks or 5th year transfer as Oz alluded to.

The Knicks hired Kurt Rambis as interim coach- Phil Jackson got burned hiring Derek Fisher who had no NBA coaching experience and that isn't going to happen again. Luke Walton is a possibility- he has already proved himself an NBA level coach.
Along with that, everything Purvis has said to the media during the offseason and this season has made it seem like he knows this is his last season at UConn. Even if he doesn't go to the NBA this year, he has a very good chance to start earning a decent amount of $$$ overseas.

When we looked at the roster without Purvis or Cassell ( who's now injured again) there was a big need for another guard next year.
Regarding Jordan I loved the tape and the athleticism, don't know about ball handling or decision making from that tape, but he looks to be way underrated and one of those rangy wiry guards with alot of upside and some one who could become a good defender...also noticed he has other high majors in looking at him ( Feb 9, 9:33 PM 2016 three-star shooting guard Jordan Bowden had assistants from LSU and Texas in the gym tonight)
As far as Purvis, I get him leaving as everyone mentioned above, he has nothing to gain by coming back. He's not an early 2nd rounder like DeAndre Daniels who could've taken a shot to gain guaranteed millions by coming back and moving up 10 or so more slots into a first rounder. If Purvis has his degree in hand that's a plus for life and he's probably peeked as far as being NBA draftable.

That's why I couldn't find anything on a "Joseph Bowden" - there is no such player. It's Jordan Bowden. His ranking at #285 is why nobody seems to get his name right.

Another 3 point shooter would help, especially if UConn loses both Gibbs and Purvis, the two best 3 point marksmen on the team, as well as Omar Calhoun, who has been a solid 3 point threat. The kid from California, Vance Jackson, is reportedly a Rashad Anderson-like 3 point marksman, but my feeling is you always need two lights out, or at least very good 3 point shooters in the rotation.
The problem with these late bloomer recruits is that in this Internet age if a team like UConn gets involved late in the recruiting process, there are teams laying stealthily in the weeds like duck hunters (Kentucky, Duke, etc.), and they read that Ozzie posted UConn is watching the guy, so they send their own low level recruiter/talent evaluator to see what the fuss is all about, and then report back. Then if the late bloomer recruit is reported on as the real deal, they swoop in for the late kill.
