UConn vs. Florida Gators

I watched some of the Florida vs. Stetson game over the weekend. Florida's best player seems to be 6'11" center Colin Castleton who is averaging 16.6 points and 7.4 boards a game, as well as 2.9 blocks. He can shoot a little bit. The Gators' other big is a skinny but very athletic 6'9", 205 pounder named Fudge. I was thinking that if Samson Johnson is back that could be a good matchup for him.

The Gators 3 point shooter is Will Richard. He got hot from 3 against Stetson and the Gators ended up pasting Stetson by 38, surprising in the sense that Stetson had beaten Florida State and South Florida. Richard is 17-29 on 3s for the season and Florida is shooting 3s at a respectable 38.4% clip as a team.

Here are the Gators stats- they are averaging 81 ppg, 10 deep team with 10 guys averaging double figure minutes, so they can match UConn's depth:

UConn WBB Sharp vs. Providence

Awful lot of good things tonight- 61% FG shooting for the game, 28 assists, 13-23 on 3s, and a great game by the bench with Bettancourt and DeBerry contributing 6 points each to go with DeBerry's career high 7 boards playing just over 1 quarter. I think Geno wanted to keep the starters fresh for the game Sunday at ND, which is a dicy, losable game, although I like UConn's chances even without Dorka.

Muhl had 12 assists to bolster her NCAA leading 10.8 per game and Player of the Game Aubrey Griffin had 18 points and 10 boards and has played great every single game this year. She had such a strong game I really think they should run more plays for her inside because she is too athletic for her defenders and can't be covered. There is not a player on that PC roster that can stay with her.

FB Recruiting P5 Quarterback Transfer on UConn’s radar….

I have been told by a legitimate source that UConn is heavily pursuing former Notre Dame starting QB Drew Pyne. Pyne started a majority of the Irish's games this season and threw for 2,021 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Pyne hails from New Canaan, CT and was an Under Armour All-American out of high school.

Mora and company, could be looking to make an early splash in the transfer portal for the 2023 season. This certainly could give UConn Football plenty of national notoriety heading into the season.

vs. Iowa St. (Sun Nov 27-10:00pm) @ the PKI - TV: ESPN

Tourney Championship moves back to the Moda Center.... Iowa St. took down #1 UNC with a combination of a lights out shooting performance and some very shoddy offensive sets in the last few minutes by the Tar Heels center/team, turning the ball over 3 times in a row, during crunch time.

The 6-3 Caleb Grill put up 31 vs. UNC after scoring only once in double figures (11 pts) in Iowa St's other games. ( he shot 1-5 in their 81-79 win vs. Nova in 38 mins.)

OT- Kemba Benched

Honestly I am not surprised by this. I saw a few Knicks games and even though Kemba shot the 3 well in those games, something was way off with his drives. He would get past his defender and looked afraid to drive into the defense, instead pulling up and shooting quickly as soon as the shot blocker rotated over to block his path. The net result was a whole lot of bricks, bad looking bricks.

He isn't the same guy he was a few years back, and it's tough at his size to be effective on the defensive end. So Thibodeau decided to go with a bigger guard.

The other problem for Kemba is that the young kid that the Knicks drafted out of Kentucky, Quickley, who is the closest thing to Kemba stylistically and in size, is playing great. I think they want to open up some minutes for him.

It's a competitive league. It's too bad, but Kemba had the greatest single season of any player in UConn history and that will not be forgotten any time soon.
