Other Big East Action

Yeah Huskies have to stop carrying this conference...;) time to make a departure for the ACC since they seem to need all the help they can get on the hoops side. (only 4 NCAA teams with 18 members, and only Duke's left, SMH ).....I'd even go for a mini ACC 4 team add with all the talk of a merger lately.

The ACC is a sinking ship, does UConn really want to go down with that sinking ship? Their basketball has declined so badly it's become a complete joke!

BB Recruiting 2025 UConn Basketball Transfer Portal Tracker

It's that time of year again, PORTAL SZN! Similar to what we do for football, we wanted to make a dedicated thread to actual happenings in the portal. This first post of the thread will be updated with the running list of notable names in the portal along with guys that UConn is showing interest in and each player will have their Rivals Transfer profiles linked as well.

Kyle Neptune Fired; Villanova Job Open

Kevin Ollie got 6 years to prove he was worthy of being Jim Calhoun's successor at UConn. Kyle Neptune only got 3 years to prove he could be Jay Wright's worthy successor from Villanova:
I kind of feel sorry for Neptune, although one could argue his teams underachieved. But they were not terrible and we may have needed more time to see how he could work the portal over time.

Cooley Rant on McNeeley Winning FOY Over GU's Sorber

The Big East FOY race was very even and his guy lost due to season ending injury and the fact that McNeeley's stats were similar/just as good:
My comment on this news article is that it reminds me of the line from William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, "the lady doth protest too much, methinks", for which you can substitute the name of Ed Cooley. Also reminds me of a famous Justin Timberlake song:
Login to view embedded media Some of this may even be posturing to motivate Sorber to come back next year and win the POY award, like Cooley is predicting. Which the kid probably will, due to his injury, depending on his projected draft placement.

UConn Players in NBA

Clingan has steadily improved and has minutes and production are on the uptick. He has started 22 of 52 games and is averaging 17 minutes, but had 32 last night, and is starting lately more and more as the coaches begin to trust him. He is rewarding their trust.

Every time I watch Clingan highlights like the one posted just above I am reminded of what UConn is missing this year, and why the rim attacks are bit more prevalent than they were the last 2 years. Although the 2 UConn centers have played well of late and given UConn combined very solid production at the 5. It's just that Clingan completely discouraged so much around the rim because of his massive size and ability to use it. One of the reasons Duke is ranked #1 is they have a similar, although very athletic 7'2" rim protector in Maluach, who is a beast.

UConn Hoops: Reed Jr.'s monster game helps Huskies defeat Providence

McNeely is a very talented player with a superb handle but I noticed he is sometimes overconfident in it, and will sometimes get it stolen or deflected against good athletic defenders. However I am extremely impressed by the multifaceted game he brings to the team. He is the team's 2nd leading rebounder, is a good passer and I don't think we have seen his best shooting. He is also very strong driving the ball and maintains his body control through contact so that he can make the AND 1's. So sad we only have him for 1 year.
