HARTFORD, Conn. – Josh Brown scored with two seconds left to left Temple over No. 23 UConn 55-53 Tuesday night in American Athletic Conference play at the XL Center.

The Owls (7-6, 2-1 AAC) won their third straight game over the Huskies (10-4, 1-1), who suffered their first home loss of the season.

Despite struggling from the field much of the night, Daniel Hamilton made two foul shots with 30.6 seconds left to tie the game at 53. Brown then came down and scored the game-winner on a drive to the bucket.

Sterling Gibbs missed a desperate shot at the buzzer. Shonn Miller had 18 points for the Huskies and Rodney Purvis added 11. Hamilton finished with six points and nine rebounds.

Quenton DeCosey led Temple with 15 points and Brown and Jaylen Bond each added 11. The Owls won the rebound battle 40-34 and held UConn to 31.6 percent shooting, which was a season low.

Outside of Miller (12 points) and Purvis (eight) the Huskies offense struggled in the first half as Temple built a 30-27 lead.

The Huskies led 11-2 – eight points coming from Purvis – early in the half, but the Owls responded with a 13-2 run, which was capped by DeCosey’s 3-pointer, to take a 16-13 lead.

UConn shot 32.3 percent in the half and just 3-for-10 on 3-pointers. Temple made only 32.3 percent of its shots, but received nine points from its bench to UConn’s two.

It mystifies me that UConn shot 31.6% in this game because Temple was not doing anything special defensively. UConn missed a lot of very makeable shots.
