It is kind of crazy that we’ve won a little more than 20% of the last 25 championships. 😍

Last night we struggled to put them away like we did for most of the tourney Because of missed layups/dunks and sloppy turnovers. But Hawk made an early onions 3 to put us back up 8. And Newt was steady and calmly sank all his FTs.

So many contributions. And Danny is all grown up. 😊 we want 6!

Huge Shout out to Tristen ( 19 points/ 10 Rebs/ 4 asst/ 8-8 FT's) for being the guy who stirred the drink. I knew it was coming and you cracked the code" taking it to the well", when the offense got stalled and away from the "wasted motion" offense that was plaguing the team in JAN.........You should be LOL all over that tweet...they don't know !

Newton was critically 8-8 on FTs and UConn was 24-27 on FTs for the game (89%). Shades of 2014 when John Calipari ordered his team not to foul UConn in a much closer game, because UConn was on their way to shooting 88% for the tournament.

This high end, elite FT shooting in a big, pressure filled game can't be understated, and the San Diego State players all mentioned it in their pressers.

Love it.....at some point it's about work not words (or trophies from the other guys)....you did it oldschool DH and Co....you earned it.

Interesting take on the "good luck" Uconn had overall with injuries this year compared to the prior couple of seasons ....so you have to be good and you have to be lucky as Geno can attest to....just a few:

"In total, UConn's top eight scorers missed exactly five games all season"

"the Huskies did have one key injury. Samson Johnson, the talented, 6-foot-10 sophomore forward, missed about two months...... In fact, Johnson was in the starting lineup for that season-opener against Stonehill, with Karaban backing him up at the four-spot......It's impossible to know whether Karaban would have wrestled the starting spot from Johnson...but Karaban became "The Man."

"Injuries have plagued UConn basketball in recent years. Last season, Hawkins missed the Huskies' final four games (including losses to Villanova and New Mexico State in the Big East and NCAA tournaments, respectively). They certainly could have used his shooting. Sanogo and Tyrese Martin also missed time last season. "

"The year before, soon-to-be lottery pick James Bouknight missed eight games with an elbow injury. He wasn't quite the same upon his return, and the Huskies were bounced from the NCAA tourney's first round by Maryland."

"Jackson missed much of the first couple of months of that season, and let's not even get into Akok Akok, who tore his Achilles in February, 2020 and was never the same over the next two seasons."

Yeah, injuries and health have been key to outcomes. I believe the UConn women may have left 3 or 4 championships on the table due to injuries, starting with 1998 when Ralph had her first bad knee injury, then in 2001 when Ralph and Abrosomova were lost at the very end of the season to season ending injuries, and last year no Bueckers and no Ice Brady. It's hard to say UConn WBB would have won with them, but I have to think they wouldn't have been that awful against Ohio State's pressure with Bueckers out there. That being said Muhl and Fudd were the ball handlers against that press and they were absolutely awful. Muhl is a high TO point guard but I don't know what happened with Fudd, she looked like she never saw a press before.

This year for the men, Hawkins had to overcome a concussion, and Samson Johnson was essentially out all year, but apart from that there were no significant injuries to key players. Diarra kind of disappeared from the rotation in the postseason, so the team was really only 8 deep, but hopefully there will be more depth next year.

Here a Syracuse fan debates whether UConn or Syracuse is in a better position and league, ultimately concluding that Syracuse is in the better position:
Who Syracuse ? They've been mostly irrelevant for years after CR, just like BC, Rutgers, Pitt, etc. But if you want to compare the 2 remaining P-6 schools that are independent in FBS football.....
Notre Dame and Uconn, I'd take Uconn's situation in the BE by a long shot.

Good job and recap now that it has all calmed down. Covers quite a few topics even a mention on Mike's old partner of Mike and the Mad Dog ( Chris Russo's ) son being a grad assistant for DH at Uconn this year.
