March 24- now the staff gets a jump on the teams left in the tournament and can devote 100% attention to addressing needs.

Of those, assuming Karaban and McNeeley are both gone, I would love to have Bryce Hopkins. Although he seemed like he was damaged goods this year, not sure what his injury status is. He was a beast before his injury.

Reactions: the Blades
Elliott Cadeau, North Carolina PG, is in the portal. Good player. 6.2 assists per game. Not a great 3 point shooter, but improved to 34% from a disastrous freshman season.

Was listening to Zanetto Transfer Portal Podcast. He seems to think both Jaylin Stewart and Tarris Reed Jr. may leave. There was a discussion of point guards and it is believed Donovan Dent might be the top available guy:
Also discussed as a possible UConn target was Isaac McKneeley of Virginia, a real good shooter, but I do not see him as being needed:
Another guy they discussed as a replacement for Stewart if he leaves is Mackenzie Mgbako, who has underachieved in 2 years at Indiana. But he is a NJ kid:

This is very disappointing to me, because I think this kid is going to be really, really good. At the open scrimmage in August he really stood out to me. I was very surprised that he did not get more playing time than he did, but what we have seen from Hurley is that trust is all about experience in his system. He benched Tristan Newton, who at that time was an experienced transfer portal player, multiple times early in his UConn career. Newton later became a UConn legend. It was really hard for this year's freshman to earn his trust. Abraham looked to me like a kid who is a lot better than what his ranking was coming out of college.

No surprise here, plenty of bitching all year long from his camp.

Luis Gil in Portal:
Although he sucked moose balls in the NCAA flameout loss to Arkansas and got benched, he is a dynamic player. Have to take a look at him even if he is a one year guy.

Tuesday visitor from the SEC..... Tristan vibes ?

Silas Demary Jr. was a good all around 2 year player for Georgia. He is 6'5" and can shoot the 3 as well:
He has also been visited by Kentucky, so there are lots of suitors for this kid. 247 has him ranked as the #3 combo guard in the portal.

Silas Demary Jr. - Georgia. (now listed at) 6-5/195lbs and can shoot the 3 as well......
Yep...I was showin' a little love to the Husky House and Richie's thread, so I put him up in there but as you mentioned he has plenty of choices.

I won't speculate on any of these portal guys since it's an effort in futility with a 1000+ players in the portal. But in this case DH does have him coming to Storrs. Other than that he seems to be the type of bigger lead guard that can get downhill when the offense stalls, which Uconn was lacking this year. Also like Cam (B1G) and Tristan were ( when teams like Uconn, Houston and Cincy were in the AAC), Silas has shown he can get it done at a high level. He averaged nearly 20pts/4 reb/4ast in his last 10 games this year in the SEC......here's his stats profile.

Something heavily influencing the portal recruiting is not just who is leaving but who is coming back.

We know for sure Diarra is gone as well as Nowell, and likely Mahaney, which leaves a gaping hole at both starting point guard and possibly back up point guard.

What we don't know right now is if Karaban, Ball or McNeeley are coming back. Or Reed or Ross, for that matter.

Last I checked Karaban, who didn't shoot particularly well this year, had an extended and severe slump, and didn't look like a main man player for most of the year (notwithstanding some occasionally clutch shots and moments) is going at the end of the second round.

Ball has been listed as late 1st round in some mock drafts but is not a consensus 1st round pick. Latest NBA Draft Net mock had him going #17 overall, which may be high as far as a consensus.

McNeeley's draft stock has dropped precipitously over concerns about his finishing ability and his defense. He finished the season shooting 31.7% from 3 and 38% FGs which, simply put, are poor numbers for a shooter of his ability. Latest mock from NBA Drat Net had him going #25. This is as compared to #7 in this same mock after he dropped 38 on Creighton. He finished the season with some very poor shooting performances that didn't help his cause.
So none of these guys are automatically in the draft if the NIL money is right.

From the it only gets weirder file...7 years (April fools ?) .....But I actually did hear Zanetto mention someone like Sanago or don't be surprised if pro decisions that don't work out (as in a lower paid G league) contesting in court to get past eligibility still remaining and trying to comeback for an NIL payday, SMH !

I guess Bryce dropped down to #9 overall while another guy moved up to #7 above him now and got a crystal ball for the good guys, but we shall see...

I believe St. John's loses both of their starting guards, but the question in my mind is how much money did they use up on Hopkins and Sanon? One of the things we should discuss and haven't is that the programs that rely heavily on portal, like the Rickie P led Johnnies, have to have some limit to what they can spend. There has to be some functional if not actual salary cap. And if you pay 2 guys a ton of money how much you got left to spend?

More like could discuss but can't because of the holding pattern until House settlement on April 7, that could be settled soon but maybe won't and schools scrambling to make whatever deals they can before guard rails are put in place. Even then just wait and see how the P-4 especially, try to game the new REV sharing/NIL system because they have the most $$$......as I said in this thread post #17 there's still so much to unpack. ( P.S. in Ricky P's case he's been dirty for so long and is so old... I don't think he cares to worry about anything in terms of rules, guard rails, etc.)

Huge additions for Creighton from the transfer portal, means Creighton will once again be very strong:
St. John's and Creighton look like they will be very good next year, but SJU still needs to replace their starting guards.
