Last year's team had three senior starters, more talent, and was healthy at the start of the year, and still had some embarrassing early losses from which they never recovered.
Who cares what the class of the players are if they weren't very good? I think Vital will be a more consistent player game in and game out than Purvis, and I dont even expect him to start. I dont see any chance of a Gilbert/Adams backcourt playing 30 minutes a game not being better than Adams/Purvis was last year just because Purvis was a senior, the guy was an albatross last year and did more to lose games than win them. Facey was also a guy who had to be guaranteed 35 minutes a game to play well after all the injuries, and even he faded badly down the stretch after a good middle stretch during the season. We all know Brimah's issues so no need to rehash there. I expect the frontcourt to be a work in progress as I'm sure KO will have to continue to mix and match pieces depending on who plays well from game to game, but I expect the 5some of Adams/Gilbert/Vital/Anderson/Larrier to function well and carry this team.I hate to be the glass-half-full guy, but I think the chances if this team being mediocre or bad are probably better than the chances of it being good. Last year's team had three senior starters, more talent, and was healthy at the start of the year, and still had some embarrassing early losses from which they never recovered. This year's team has a bunch of question marks about both the health and the talent of the players. Add that to the fact most of these guys have not played together before, and it's not a pretty picture. Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised, but I would wait before betting the farm on a NCAA Tournament bid.
