Parking for future stadium expansion? :
As part of the new agreement UTC also will give the state 10 acres of land for additional parking at the stadium as well as provide an easement for the use of 15 acres adjacent to existing stadium parking. The stadium will gain about 2,500 parking spaces, according to Chris Lawrence of Global Spectrum, which operates the XL Center in Hartford as well as UConn's football home in East Hartford. Lawrence is the general manager of both venues. The stadium now has 9,000 spaces."
Thursday's announcement was part of a groundbreaking ceremony for Pratt & Whitney's new 425,000-square foot global headquarters and engineering building on the company's East Hartford property. "There's no better time to rename the stadium than as part of Pratt & Whitney's 90th anniversary celebration, especially as we begin to construct our new headquarters and engineering building that will sit just a few hundred yards from Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field," Pratt & Whitney President Paul Adams said in a statement.
