UConn's Exit Dance: Benedict, Aresco Talk Turkey

The Story:
UConn and the AAC are in negotiating mode and time will tell if the university gets a deal that will be beneficial to the entire athletic department. The good news is UConn will receive a full share of Big East money( Forbes) when it enters the conference.

" In English, that means Connecticut will share fully in Big East Conference revenue from Day One. Contrast that with Rutgers and Maryland, which joined the Big Ten in 2014 but won’t get full revenue sharing within the conference until 2021. That key difference shows how UConn's reunion with the Big East is good for both sides, because the Huskies get to renew some of their old men’s basketball rivalries and to play the conference tournament in Madison Square Garden, as opposed to Fort Worth, Texas, where the AAC will play its men’s hoop tourney the next three years. Meanwhile, the Big East (and Fox Sports) pretty much get access to the entire state of Connecticut, and its huge fan base for the state school's men's and women's basketball teams."

Also from Forbes:
(Aresco and the AAC ) is figuring out exactly when Connecticut will leave. The school’s contract with the Big East stipulates that it must join by no later than June 30, 2022. Not surprisingly, it has been reported that UConn would like to be back in the Big East by the summer of 2020, but that remains to be seen. "We're not sure at this point when UConn's exit will be," Aresco said. "Negotiations have been amicable."

BENEDICT EMERGES IN NEWPORT: Athletic director Dave Benedict did talk on the record about the departure and possibly playing FB independently in 2020 (which is the most likely scenario). Benedict said he was encouraged by the conversation (Courant) he has had about scheduling and believes the schools can get quality games home and away.

Interesting article regarding the AAC and ESPN+ production costs that could cost member schools millions. Cinci's AD asked Aresco B4 he made the deal with ESPN, but :

Courant does a look at the BB move/ comparison. My take is without Nova,(and what Uconn did for the AAC, both Men's and Women's NC's) the conferences are probably about even. But if Uconn hoops/DH gets it back on track it can put the BE way over the top. Also from an attendance point of view both as a home draw for the Huskies and playing in many full BE houses on the road.... the AAC's empty buildings, along with it's tourney, would've continued to be a real drag for both fans and recruits.
