NIL Chaos!!!

This made national news today - starting QB left UNLV, according to other published reports due to UNLV boosters defaulting on NIL agreements:
It should be noted that another Vegas news source is reporting that another school offered Sluka more NIL money and that's why he is leaving.
Meanwhile the University or Florida, its coach and NIL collective are also being sued by a former QB who alleges they defaulted on promised NIL money.

Obviously pretty soon word will be out on who comes through with the money and who does not but it is sounding like WILD WILD WEST with schools making wild promises to kids they cannot keep.

It's strange- right now tampering with other schools players is legal. Th bottom line on NIL is it goes back to one scene in a 1997 movie which may have changed the culture of American sports.

Starting QB Unknown Against Temple

I am guessing it will probably be Evers. Mora said that Evers does need to clean up his running so as to dive rather than slide at the end of runs so he stops taking big hits. Hopefully we see more of that this week.

UConn is -16.5 I believe on Fan Duel, but Zanetto urged his listeners to give the points because he guarantees UConn will win by 30. I hope nobody took that statement to their bank and wagered their weekly pay, but we will see what happens.

Transfer Portal Windows Shortened For Basketball and Football

I really do not understand why they do not wait until the end of the NCAA Tournament to start the 30 days? It's like an artificial penalty on teams still in the tourney after the 2nd round and slated to lose a bunch of veteran players. Someone is going to have to explain to me the reasoning behind this:

Other Action & UConn Opponents

Very interesting development last night as Syracuse went on the road and beat previously undefeated and #25 ranked UNLV, the school which has trouble keeping its NIL promises, by a score of 44-41. Syracuse dominated the game statistically. This will enhance the value of a possible win over a Syracuse later in the season.

However, the schedule continues to toughen very substantially for Syracuse the next 5 games with 4 of the 5 on the road, and they could lose all 5- at NC State, at undefeated Pitt, Virginia Tech at home and then road games at BC and California, before they play UConn. They will be fortunate to go 3-2 in that stretch. We will see what happens with them.

As Big 12 expansion rumors boil, UConn pours NIL money into FB: 'Tired of being disrespected "

"The Huskies raised and spent about $100,000 last season through NIL efforts. This season, the number is up ten-fold, to somewhere between $1-1.25 million. That is something Benedict was willing to discuss. “We’re going to double it next year, at least,” he said. “We’re going to pour gas on it. We’re going to win in football. I’m tired of being disrespected as a brand, nationally, because of football. "

"And I get it. But the difference as we sit here today is we have NIL and revenue sharing now. And before, when we were a BCS affiliate with the old Big East, we could recruit differently. When that went away, it really impacted this university in a way that is probably unique because of the location. There are very, very good recruits here ( CT/NE). But there are a limited number. And they all go, if you look at the top 10 every year, there’s one thing in common — all of them are going to power [conferences]. Whether NIL and revenue sharing will help us keep some of those kids will be determined, but we can recruit in a totally different way. We have an unbelievable university. We have great facilities. We have great coaches. And we’re going to start providing people with great opportunities in other ways.”

"In bringing in 50-plus new players this season, UConn spread more than $1 million into the hands of 20-plus recruits from the transfer portal, many of them, like Evers, having come from power programs. The goal is for $2-3 million to be shared with, say, 40 players of high expectations next offseason, giving UConn the size, depth and talent needed in an effort to show that the program can be more than something basketball and university support drags along.
“I’m not sure how many people did more than we did, in the Group of Five,” Benedict said of programs unaffiliated with power conferences. “It’s difficult to say where we stand because there’s no ledger of, here’s the list of what everyone did around the country in the Group of Five. But if we’re not in the top five, I’d be surprised. "
