TRUE.....The ALL STATE 12, SMH !.....
We are in the era of crass commercialism- it's just a question of how far it will go. It always seemed like NASCAR was the world leader in it with their drivers covered head to toe with advertising patches. I never thought the NY Yankees (which is a professional sports team) would stoop to having any advertising patches on their uniforms, but that changed last year when they were paid $25 million by Starr Insurance for an advertising patch:

From what I heard on the Zanetto podcasts, the biggest issue with the Big 12 ADs is the "Why Now?" questions, with the ACC ready to implode with the Florida State and Clemson lawsuits and likely departures. They are probably asking why not wait and grab those 2 schools, but all of that could still and maybe will happen anyway. It's really a question of how big does the "Allstate 12" want to be and how much do they value basketball?? Yormark is emphasizing basketball supremacy on the theory that basketball is undervalued, and I tend to agree with him, although I do not know what the numbers on the media rights deals suggest. Which brings back the question of whether this will help the Allstate 12 in the negotiations or whether it leads to some different offers being made by ESPN etc.

Meanwhile a Syracuse beat writer is urging the ACC to make their play for UConn. How about setting off a bidding war between the 2 conferences for UConn- would that get you stoked up Blades, or what? You can get as high on CR as you can on THC/Marijuana!(LOL)

ESPN gets Uconn MBB & WBB in the fold, (they own the Big 12 TV contract) and could save up money on the ACC opt out, for another round of CR shuffling too.

Bold prediction from CBS's

  • Dennis Dodd: In February, ESPN will exercise its option not to extend the ACC contract beyond 2027. Florida State -- having played the long game -- will have its out and be able to put itself on the market. FSU will do so at a much reduced rate to get out of the grant of rights since it will only have three years to run. Don't ask me where FSU goes, but if it is as free agent beginning in 2028, there will be Power Four interest. Basically, the next round of major realignment begins less than a month after the 2025 championship game. Buckle up.

Basically CR is like a game of musical chairs. The object of the game is that when the music stops you don't want to be the one left without a seat. But after each round someone is left without a seat. I still think at some point Congress is going to get involved. Someone at a jilted school with friends in high places is going to call in a favor.

To keep the money coming in, you have to keep things competitive. Yet increasingly power and money is becoming concentrated in the few at the expense of the many. History teaches that isn't going to end well. The money is going to stop coming in at some point if you tune too many people out.

Now Uconn using their premier hoops to get into the Big 12. Is Benedict working on a partial Big 12 FB scheduling (until 2031 or FB proves they can hang) like Notre Dame in the ACC, but for different reasons ???

Especially with only 2 Indy's left in CFB, which makes it tough for scheduling purposes, if your not named the Fighting Irish.
Since you mentioned this much has been made of Yormark seeking to upgrade the Big 12 into the premiere basketball conference in the country (which it probably was last year), while others are preoccupied with becoming the premiere football conference. Remember the Big 12 flirted with Gonzaga, which isn't even on the landscape of college football. So there is a lot of sense to this.

But one thing is missing from this analysis, which is the distribution of football revenue. If UConn isn't full time FB the other schools would properly object to UConn getting a share of the FB revenue that is equal to their slice of the pie. So all of that would have to be negotiated.

I did get some intel on Nick Evers the new UConn QB which came from a former teammate of his at Wisconsin I happen to know. Was told he is very talented and he will be very good at UConn. We will see. Obviously if we had crystal balls on how all of this will all play out, we would be professional swamis. But we don't, and aren't, so we will need to wait and see what happens.

Blades on a separate subject who at UConn can I contact about a Maui Classic tickets package? I seem to recall you are a Maui veteran.

Maui Classic?

I am interested in going to the Maui Classic and am wondering if anyone knows whether packages can be booked through UConn. When I went to Battle of Atlantis in 2011, I did book the land package through a UConn travel package but did flights on my own.

I have a couple of concerns about doing the Hawaii trip. One is I don't like flying all that much and while 3-4 hour flights are tolerable, I understand I am signing up for total air time of 11 plus hours to get to and from Hawaii. The other concern is what is actually left in Lahaina as far as hotel accommodations etc.? I understand that 80% of the island of Maui was burned to the ground in the August 2023 fire, including buildings surrounding the Lahaina Civic Center - which was apparently unscathed by the fire. What kind of stay am I signing up for?

If anyone has any info or insights please share. The possibility exists for me to take that entire week off, see the 3 UConn games, and then spend Thanksgiving with my sister who lives in the San Francisco area where I will fly on the way back.
