Step Away from the Ledge

I don't think that does it, especially when the NCAA bracket crashers take away the bottom spots as you mentioned above. Then to me would the committee put in a 6th place Uconn over teams like 1st place Temple who did it over the entire AAC schedule and is 2-0 vs. Uconn or Cincy who was the same ? Way to much wishful thinking by Uconn fans unless they win out.

Unbalanced scheduling uconn played the top 5 teams all twice(temple, cinci, tulsa, smu, Houston). Can't look at them finishing 5/6th in the conference as a true measuring stick when they had the most difficult schedule

Well maybe you can't but that doesn't mean what has been an anti-AAC committee won't, again having way to much faith in them, especially after what they did to the AAC and a top 25 team like SMU 2 years ago...then throw in the eye test down the stretch is setting yourself up to be disappointed. But the bottom line is win out, control what you can control and F%ck em' all ...if not you set yourself up as a victim on Selection Sunday.

A National Championship generally buys you a lot of time
This team has been a disappointment since the Bahamas. There has been little improvement.
The conference is mediocre at best. Finishing 5th or 6th in it 3 years in a row is not inspiring.
Missing the NCAA's 2 years in a row is not acceptable here.
It never happened to Calhoun since he made his 1st tourney.
This team needs a good showing next week.
If not the heat will be on Mr.Ollie quickly.

The 5th year senior transfers has not worked out.
I'm tired of transfers period when you throw Purvis into the mix.

The team plays hard and is very good defensively.
Offensively in the halfcourt it is putred at times. There has been no offensive improvement in 2 years.

The only time this team was successful under KO was when it was being carried offensively in isolation by Napier and Daniels.

Improvement is direly needed. Ball Movement and passes that lead to more than 3 point heaves would be refreshing

The team has been a disappointment since the Battle of Atlantis in the beginning of the year. A few good games and a lot of bad losses where they looked dysfunctional against better teams. Although the coaching staff shares a large part of the blame, the team has had myriad problems including:

(1) Rebounding- it's been below average, and UConn has been last in the AAC in offensive rebounding most of the year. As a result, transition offense has been very sporadic and UConn has been forced to play a halfcourt game by most competent foes on the schedule.

(2) The UConn big men, outside of Shonn Miller (and Steve Enoch in occasional flashes when he plays), have been completely ineffective on offense. Brimah and Phil Nolan and Facey are not even modest offensive threats, except Brimah when he is lobbed to, and good teams shut that down and dare Brimah to post up. Once Miller started getting double teamed the team didn't react well, and Miller's 0.5 assist per game average indicates he is not likely to beat people passing out of double teams.

(3) Point guard has been a problem all year. Gibbs cannot run a halfcourt offense. Jalen Adams can, but he has been extremely inconsistent, and the last couple games he was playing hurt. As a result, Cassell has even been pressed into action lately, and like Gibbs, his strength mainly seems to be shooting 3s and not much else.

(4) The guards as a group are very poor finishers. The team has had extraordinary problems making layups and bunnies, and other than Jalen Adams, nobody on the team can competently take the ball to the hole and either get fouled or get off what looks like a decent shot.

(5) In close games, where crisp execution on offense and defensive stops were needed, UConn had not had very much of either. The offense has looked comically bad in late game pressure situations.

(6) Basketball IQ and shot selection and ballhandling have been problems for 2 years running.

While we're all piling on I'll say this again. I was KO's biggest supporter on this board to get the job( besides Ozzie), when the Shaka and Brad Stevens( neither who would have stayed) names were being thrown around. He brings so much linkage to all of Uconn's hoops Alum and especially with Ray ( who was just on the AD selection committee) and Donny who has served on the BOT. Then add KO's NBA pedigree and off the court I'm sure you couldn't find a better rep for the school or role model for these student-athletes. Plus how many landmine recruits has KO managed to avoid for the program in the last few years ?

But Dom mentioned it in the SMU thread because he was there live and I've noticed way to many times as a season ticket holder being at every game.....KO is just to nice a guy ! He's shown no edge to fight for every play and every call....I get more pissed off in the stands than KO does, while he sits their relaxed way to often.... When you have a PG with an edge and a chip on his shoulder like Shabazz( remember him almost knocking Boat to the floor in NC because he was out of position) you probably don't need much edge as a coach.....you can let the players play and the refs screw you over on the 50/50 calls. Maybe I got spoiled by JC's edge and constant fight, but it seems like most great coaches have it ....while they know how to use psychological warfare with their players to get the best out of them. I just don't see any of that with KO on the court. Maybe his MO is just being a respectful guy, who wants to beat you with his hardwork and accent the positives..... but have his players responded ?

We got JC after a 14 year apprenticeship at Northeastern where he was only about a .500 coach for 6 out of his first 7 years at that level. Are we spoiled ? Probably and maybe the way to get around a NCAA drought "for Uconn" is to recruit the best talent ( KO's got a Top 5 class -2016)... but this team was picked to be #2 in the AAC so missing the NCAA's can't be acceptable. It looks like KO could have 2 games lined up in the AAC tourney vs. teams that he's 0-4 against this year....Get it done & make us all STFU !

Yes the jury is still out on this season. We are all piling on due to huge disappointment relative to the expectations for this team. The team in reality has some holes and opponents have done a good job exploiting UConn's weaknesses. But the team can play better and it could still happen. I agree with Blades that Ollie has been a little bit too docile with the team and has not picked his spots well when attempting to instill discipline. The benching of Adams in the game at Temple and then panicking and putting him back in when it was too late and the game was lost may have made KO gunshy about knee jerk type coaching decisions. That was a truly disastrous loss and if UConn doesn't make the NCAA that game and home loss to Cincy are probably the two games that will stand out. Both of those games could have been wins although UConn was horrible on offense against Cincy in that game.

KO has to do a better job working the refs. He can't sit on the bench with a perplexed look on his face. He should do what Mick Cronin does. Cronin is the best I have seen at working refs. It's part of a coach's job description especially with officiating being off this year with rules changes and transitioning to a new style of play. The refs have to be reminded of what they should and shouldn't be calling. It has to be done. Some coaches are very effective at this and some not so much. KO has to do better. He still is a relatively young coach and perhaps with experience and getting better players he will do better.

I have to question KO's so-called strong recruiting.
We keep bringing in players who cannot shoot.
I dont understand that with the 3 point line and new analytics all steering offense towards taking more three's.
Adams will be a good PG but shooting is his weakness.
Same can be said for Hamilton
Purvis was hyped up as being a "Ferrari" - how can a guard that does not play point and can't shoot be a Ferrari?

I have to question the talent evaluation and use of that talent.
The one player that can shoot on the roster is being asked to run the point.
Gibbs isn't a good point guard and can't get off his own shot.

We need better players and the coaches to make better use of the players.

Ollie never would have been hired by UCONN had Calhoun not strategically went to bat for him.
He needs to repay that debt and step it the F up right now

There is something to be said about 3 point shooting as CFP mentioned. Right now Michigan State, which is ranked #2, is #1 in the nation shooting over 43.7% on 3s as a team which is incredible. #1 Kansas is #2 in 3 point shooting at 43%.

Michigan State is also #1 in the nation in rebounding margin and #2 in FG% defense. It's amazing that one team can be leading or top 2 in all 3 of these categories.

Correct
The people we are bringing in can all be regarded as being shooting challenged
And that includes next year's class from what I've gathered
This makes no sense

Maybe it's because Ollie wasn't a good shooter he has devalued it.
Step into this century please

CFPres, Jackson is thought to be the #1 HS shooter in this class and a bigger version of Fish Fry.

And as shifty and quick as Gilbert is, he's made over 50% of his HS 3's and he shoots a lot.

Below were final recruiting rankings from a current player on the roster
Care to guess who this is? Look up his high school shooting percentages...
Everyone that has been brought in here in the past 2 years has been vastly overrated.

I hope Jackson and Gilbert can actually shoot the ball.
I don't judge statistics in high school prep or AAU games as an indicator.
Hitting shots with a hand in your face or off the dribble with 5 minutes left in a college game is vastly different.
These are things no one on this current roster can do.

I look forward to people not afraid to shoot
Just watched 20 minutes of guys hesitating to shoot open three's only to dribble into a harder 2.
It's embarrassing

I see we're not playing Daniel Hamilton anymore and decided Phil Nolan and Calhoun should get big minutes? Great time of year to be sending messages...........

It's called senior day and Hamilton was put on the bench after being careless.

Not sure if you are watching the game or not

UCF should have a Taco night next year for Taco Fall. It would be a good promotion for a local Mexican restaurant down in Orlando to get involved in.
