Rickey Moore Will Not Be at 1999 Title Team Celebration

This is very disappointing news for those looking forward to seeing Rickey again:

For the younger fans on the board who were still babies or young kids back in 1999, Rickey Moore was a significant contributor to that title team especially with his first half offense and late game defensive heroics. Moore was one of the best defensive players in UConn history, and I don’t recall anyone better at covering small, quick scoring guards. He shut down everyone from Allen Iverson in the 1996 Big East championship game to Scoonie Penn in the 1999 Final 4. And then he forced the travel on 3 point specialist Trajan Langdon to seal UConn’s win after Khalid El Amin sank the last FTs.

I met Moore in person weeks after the 1999 championship game and got him to sign both a national championship baseball cap and the Sports Illustrated issue that came out the following week. This was at Bob’s Stores in Milford CT. He was arguably the MVP of that game although Rip Hamilton was Final 4 MOP.
