....Matt at This is UConn Country
excerpts:

rivalries:
" The University of Connecticut lost that key trait when the Big East fell apart and with it went the regular season battles against Syracuse, Georgetown, Louisville, Pitt and Villanova on the hardwood, followed by an epic tournament at Madison Square Garden. On the gridiron, it was Rutgers and to a lesser extent, Syracuse, Pitt and Louisville. Try filling the XL Center for Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) games a year or two after the Hartford Whalers (NHL) left town; it just isn't going to happen. UConn and their fans have moved from a BCS league, to one of the perceived 'lower level' conferences. "

" The Huskies, Cincinnati and South Florida, are the only three schools in the nation that were affected negatively by the shift, as all other colleges and universities have either benefited or remained in their previous situation in the landscape of college athletics. "

"Despite the deck being stacked against the Huskies, UConn has continued to perform as one of the elite athletic departments throughout the nation, even without the ridiculous TV money and high profile opponents..."

"This season, at least when it comes to rivalries, things will have a new look, Boston College, the same school that bragged about keeping the Huskies out of the ACC during the last expansion turn, will meet the Huskies in football this November..."

and regarding the conFLiCT:
"Comparing the UConn program to their counterparts in Orlando, skeptics of Huskies football may be surprised at the results."

And this : During the Big East years, The Rent was filled at 96% capacity, even in years when the team struggled in the win column. It's only been since games against West Virginia, Louisville, Rutgers and Pitt, have been replaced with Tulane, SMU and Tulsa, that there has been a drastic dip. The Huskies football home, built in 2003, was also designed to be able to support expansion. If needed, 15,000-20,000 additional seats could easily be constructed with a 3rd level wrapping around the stadium on each side of the press box.
