He has the option of reclassifying to 2017 from 2018. He takes the SAT on Saturday and plans to take the ACT in February.

“Most schools are recruiting me 2018, but they’re willing me to take me in 2017 if I feel like I’m ready and I have everything in place to go 2017,” he said.

Ayala said “only a handful” of schools are recruiting him for 2017.

“Syracuse, now UConn is recruiting me a little bit for 2017,” he said. “There’s a few other schools. Everybody knows about Syracuse and they’re situation. I’m willing to do whatever’s best for me.”

I get the feeling it's Syracuse if 2017 and UConn if 2018. For 2017, I don't know where he would get minutes in Storrs. I don't think he would leapfrog Vital and if Adams doesn't leave early that's Jalen, Gilbert, and Ashton-Langford soaking up most of the PT available.

Anytime. For as good as Ayala has gotten as a facilitator and on the ball, UConn desperately needs guy that can score the ball with efficiency. Not that he is a knockdown shooter but he is a very well rounded offensive weapon that is polished already at the time being. Issue is, outside of Vital, everyone else is ball dependent. Ayala is too, to a certain degree, but I do believe he has the best chance to slide between guard spots and also operate as a solid on ball defender. Would most likely take some of the minutes used by RP this season.

From what it sounds like I'd rather see Uconn go after a J-Lamb type guard. It's already been posted on this board that MAL can't shoot, FT's either, the jury is still out on Rique as a shooter though he had good HS numbers long range and Jalen has potential. But KO needs to have a little diversity in the bigger 2 guard/wing J-Lamb, Rashad Anderson etc. mode ... who can put the ball in the basket from outside.

Yes, that is great in all, but there aren't many around like that available within the 2017 class or capable of reclassing into it. Best case would be either go for a grad-transfer or the juco route. As you listed above, a Jordan Tucker type would be ideal, though it could be too late to get involved as Indiana/Nova set out in front as a commitment could be at hand within the coming weeks.

Juco/ grad transfer, so be it ...got to find some shooters for this Uconn team next year....and I can't stand these slasher ball dominating types( not that I've seen enough of Ayala to say that's his game)....give me a guy who can shoot the rock and has enough of a handle for a mid range game all day in the back court....these slasher types get shut down in college ball when they go against better defenses.

The elite slasher type guys like Kemba do not get shutdown, but I agree with you Blades, you have to have guys who can shoot, at least 2 guys on the perimeter who are serious 3 point threats.

You just proved what I'm talking. Even Kemba who was known as EZpass in NYC because of his speed & driving skills, spent hours and hours in the gym till 2am in the morning at Gampel..... to develop that pull up mid range game he perfected and his 3pt shot....Not that others can't do the same thing but how many Kemba's are out there? But yeah like you said gotta have a couple of outside threats who can run off screens, play off the ball etc..... to space the floor for the others.
