Diaco Press Conference Notes

Carrezola, Stewart, Myers, Thomas, Fatukasi all individual stand out performers, per Diaco

Other exceptional performer: Justin Wain

Areas of improvement: Be sure that the team plays in a way that represents our culture, which is toughness, but it's tough gentlemen. It's a culture of composure, and self control. That's an area that needs to improve.

Jaw-jacking and losses of self-control. That's not what we do that's not who we are.

Fit issues, eye progression as it relates to eye-key assignments in all three phases. Specifically the kickoff cover team, we need a better performance there, those players need to make more of an impact. Specifically what we would call L4 over to R2, so there's about four players there that need to pick it up.

Reactions: the Blades
Emotion for college athletes really plays a part in these games... Off to a fast start really helps create other opportunities in other areas.

Challenges of the Army offense:

(There's)Three options, and now spread teams try to do it, it will be the hallmark of a few teams that we play, but the academies are experts at it.

There's no way to simulate it.

Forces the team to focus more on that from a timeframe standpoint, which doesn't help the other two phases.

On Defensive line versus cut blocking: Gotta play with great pad level and play with their hands below their knees, protect their knees, ankles and feet. After that, it's just a flat out scramble. And work to stay square.

You cannot let them run the fullback. (If you do) you're gonna lose. Same with shot-passes.

QB Bradshaw compared to Santiago from last year: We feel like he's a more athletic player, faster, he's got a darn good arm and he's a fairly accurate passer.

Bryant - excellent student. Not easy to do when you're a football junkie. He's a coach kind of guy... He's putting the work in, and leads by example.

Players respect his football IQ, his work physically and his work as part of the student body. He's a great team leader.

This preparation is unique, it's totally opposite of a lot of things we're doing. Like Groundhog Day.

Offensive line: I was really pleased, to think that Vechery never played center, now playing a nose guard, who's a darn good NG, and big... for him to get the snaps up and where they needed to be was fantastic.

I was so impressed with him and the rest of the group... it was really pleasing.

On if Villanova offered some preparation for Army: It created a lot of challenging circumstances, there are definitely a lot of elements to triple options that are present in that particular family of spread.

From that aspect, it was very positive.

Praises RB group for being unselfish. Has been led by Max, who has approached the season with a focus and determination that his circumstances are going to change and help will this group to make the collective circumstances change.
