Book Claims Escorts, Sex Provided to Louisville Basketball Recruits

I hate to admit it but UNC is doing a good job throwing women's basketball or golf program in front of the NCAA to keep them distracted since the men's basketball team looks like it is strong this season.
True Russ, old post I put up but:

UNC sacrificing Hatchell to protect men's teams in scandal

* Roy Williams and his program were in scandal report, and he got a contract extension.
* The football program was in the report, and its coaches are telling recruits there will be no repercussions from NCAA investigation.

And CBS added:

" But the timing basically ensures UNC won't be punished before National Signing Day for football or the 2016 NCAA Tournament, meaning Roy Williams' Tar Heels, a possible preseason No. 1, now run almost no risk of being banned from this upcoming season's postseason. In other words, in a twisted way, these newly discovered potential violations could prove helpful to the sports that matter most in Chapel Hill."

Russ,

I did not read the book but what I read on ESPN and other media reports is that this woman Katina Powell involved her own teenage daughters in these shenanigans which, if true, could be a problem. It was not indicated in the reports how old these girls were or the age of consent in Kentucky.

It sounds like this is headed towards McGee like a bad rash. I don't see this going away especially now that ESPN is even running with it. The other national media will be following suit.

In the CBS report, Pitino has invited McGee to speak out about the "truth" of what happened for the benefit of everyone. However I seriously doubt McGee will be speaking any time soon. His attorneys will tell him to invoke his 5th amendment right against incrimination, IF there is anything he can still be charged with (such as promoting prostitution or whatever other charges on which the SOL has not run). If there isn't anything he can be charged with, his own job security might behoove silence until he speaks to investigators.

Can't the President of Louisville override the AD and fire Pitino? I seem to recall the Indiana President doing the same and going over the AD to fire Bobby Knight (I think it was Myles Brand who was later NCAA President). Knight had choked one of his players in practice. However, if Pitino is telling the truth, maybe he shouldn't be fired but merely suspended along the lines of the 9 game suspensions given to JIm Boeheim and Larry Brown for failing to properly oversee the program. I wouldn't have a problem with that if Pitino is telling us the truth. I can't believe he would be dumb enough to allow this to continue if he had known.

Well, I believe that Good Morning America, ESPN's SportsCenter, OTL & ESPN Radio all covered this today. Inside Edition claims to have a new interview with the U of L accuser airing soon. So this story is moving beyond sports media because...sex sells.

Age of consent in Kentucky is 16, I believe that both of her daughters had reached the age of consent but I would have to go back and read the book again.

Pitino better be careful urging McGee to come forward. Because if he does and he says Pitino asked him, just one time if they were doing this and McGee answered "Yes, but we stopped," Pitino is screwed.

Now he doesn't have to cooperate with the NCAA investigation since he doesn't work for an NCAA member institution. interesting development

Over time Powell has lost a lot of credibility with me. During her media tour, her story of how she connected with players and her account of what happened changed every time she opens her mouth. She has not told the same story twice.

She even said that she did a show at Louisville before she met Andre.

If she kept a personal journal, which she apparently did, she has to be locked in to some details. The NCAA will only go by what is in her journal and not embellishments on media tours, because after all a media tour is all about embellishment. The phone records ought to speak for themselves and if she made calls to McGee's number he will have to explain them and what they talked about.

3 different Louisville recruits have told the NCAA they were showered with strippers and sexed up!

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...gators-attended-stripper-parties-had-sex-them

"It's a pathetic story," the source said. "McGee gave the players a stack of dollar bills ranging from $200 to $500. Everybody in the room got the money -- the recruits and the current members of the team. Not only that, but McGee himself had his own stack of dollar bills. If this guy's spending $2,000 to $3,000 on a recruiting weekend, where's this money coming from?"

I think UL is in big trouble. Don't know what recruits they have but the time to de-commit is now.

Nothing really new there. They self imposed a post season ban, Pitino will probably face a suspension and there may be some reduction of on campus visits allowed for some time.

Question is whether or not Pitino stays at U of L.
