2016- Juwan Durham ( New Commit) Rivals # 31

He visits this Friday.

Also we are on Ikey Ogiabu really really hard as well now!! He would be that 7 footer out of the sky ;);)

I saw some video of Obiagu. He looks very mobile to me. Mobile 7 footers have helped us in the past....hopefully, the sarcasm is obvious.

Ozzie, have an outside the thread question. Could you pull some strings and get me a picture with KO? Let's say next time we are at a final four? If not KO, maybe another coach. I actually lived in a dorm with Kevin Freeman. Picture with KF would be cool as well.

Yea no problem at all NDH. I got you. Just tell me what games you will be at and if I'm at the same ones no problem at all.

KO is family that's easy :)

Oz- That tweet from Juwan about being home can't be a good sign. Any sense of visit? I'm hearing mixed feedback. Distance - I was told this morning will be a strong consideration. Please say that's wrong.

It's not wrong. I always believed he would stay in Florida somewhere miami or possibly Uf or Usf ... I personally never got the feeling he was a UConn guy but let's see he did come for a visit

So I just watched his tape again.....I see a little Donyell Marshall in his game....lean and looks like he can stroke it for a big.

Great news. I hope he sticks with this commitment. I'm sorry, but these things are a little fickle.

We have the best people. The best program. The best system. I've said it before. We are the future. Not the power 5. Our coaches are former players who rose to the top of a very demanding program. More than any other team our program plays to win...not to look good. KOs personality and NBA experience puts us over the top.

I am as giddy as a school girl.... This will help in closing out this class as we all want... Wenyen you are on deck son!!

Bringing back that Calhoun style recruiting with a NBA type frontline with various skillsets!!!

I'm assuming Jalen Adams is not a 1 and done. If Hamilton and Purvis are around next year that team will tough to beat. The 90s Kentucky team will have some competition on their hands for best team in our lifetime.

Quote: Tampa Prep power forward Juwan Durham commits to UConn

"I wanted to go to a school that felt like a close-knit family and I got that at UConn when I was there," Durham said. "Coach (Kevin) Ollie is great, and I know he can get the job done and help me get to that next level." He is one of the rare bay area basketball stars who has committed to a national title contender in the past decade. Durham picked the Huskies over offers from more than a dozen major schools, including Indiana, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Louisville. UConn has won four national titles, the last coming in 2014.

Sounds like a player in the UConn mold, a shot blocker with refined offensive skills, which is kind of rare since Donyell Marshall. I wonder if the knee injury possibly prevented him from being ranked higher.

I didn't see that one coming, nice !! So he is a 3/4 man.

Next season he will have to beat out Facey and Enoch that's it right ?

Yeah... missed AAU and summer ball because of the injury .... read he was ranked as high as 17th overall in the Class of 2016 by ESPN earlier.

Our ability to teach guards how to play like pros is very legit. Maybe even unparalleled in the last 5 yrs. Combine that with this athletic 6'10" big and our offense is going to look like a pro offense. Especially with KO's background.

In 2014 bazz and daniels ran plays and showed abilities none of the other teams could match. Both kentucky and florida won with big school brute force. Bazz and daniels won with a pro level refinement to their game. I believe 2014 was the tip of the iceberg for KO. Players with NBA level responsibility and ability will be evident when watching future KO teams. This is why i like our chances against the P5.

I also believe JC saw this in KO. That is why JC was so determined to get KO into the head coaching seat.

Yeah, certainly looks like a guy who can play outside or in depending how the offense flows/ pick and pop like Daniels. Just having basketball players... not exactly defined positions that KO has talked about in the past. Which his HS coach mentioned about his skill . “I think he’s going to be a stretch four,” Fenlon said. “He’s got a very diverse skill set. He’s a kid who can handle the ball, pass the ball, shoot the ball. He’s not going to be a back-to-the-basket guy, however he can score down there."

Speaking of Donyell, KO's college teammate, I couldn't find much Uconn legacy mix of Donyell, but here's and older NBA version of him with Lebron serving up alot of his dinner:

Donyell was a better college player than pro....his last year at UConn in 1993-94, other than the missed FTs in the NCAA tournament game against Florida, he was a serious main man player. I think he dropped 42 on St. John's in a Big East tourney game. He averaged 25.1 points per game and 3.2 blocks per game. I am guessing Donyell is the only UConn player who ever averaged over 25 points per game and 3 blocks per game for a season. It's unfortunate that his missed FTs against Florida tarnished an otherwise spectacular season, one of the best in UConn history:

It's very rare that a true shot blocker has offensive skills such as what Donyell possessed at the college level.

Donyell was a better college player than pro.....

True though he was a lifetime double digit scorer, his best year in the NBA he averaged 15.3. He became more of a pick and pop specialist but he def' got paid !
$72 mil + is a nice set-up for the rest of his life, hope he spent it wisely....here's a little more of Donyell going off and tying Kobe's NBA 3pt record..... which still stands to this day:

I think I've mentioned this before, that was probably the worst Uconn moment of my life. I was there in Miami Arena with my dad and about 15,000 Gator fans. If he hits just one FT all they had to do is beat BC ( who they beat about 20 times in a row) in the elite 8 game to get to the final four. Man did that suck along with the trash talkin Gator fans.

I was a little young for the trip. Senior in HS I think and my parents were not big UCONN fans.

I wonder why Burrell never spent any time on the bench at UCONN. As an assistant. Maybe he prefers to be closer to New Haven area.
