A total joke by UCONN
Danny Hurley was so outclassed coaching wise

Maryland played 5 out small ball and embarrassed UCONN's non perimeter skilled bigs
Our offensive sets are embarrassing
The low major auto qualifiers run better stuff than we do

We have people that cant beat anyone off the dribble or shoot.
Our pace of play is geriatric

Never were in a game against a 16-13 8th place finishing team in their conference.

Ashamed and disappointed we extended Hurley already.
He has shown me nothing

I like Hurley, but agree that he had no answers. Neither did our perceived star.

Big time players make big time plays In big games. We didn’t have a big time player this year. Now he’s someone else’s headache.

Was a disappointing performance to say the very least. UConn looked offensively challenged and once again had trouble matching up with and defending a small ball team. It was like we were back in the AAC playing Houston, the way Maryland played. Hurley doesn't seem to know what to do with small balling teams. They befuddle him.

I dont know what to say about Hurley
What is his deal?
He came in hyped as this small ball 3 point face paced offensive coaching machine.
At UCONN the guys teams are a slow paced bore

His "amazing" gets
Andre Jackson is top 50 except he cant hit the rim on a 20 foot jump shot?
Sanogo never plays outside the free throw line?

Cole and Tyrese Martin are slow and belong where they were......Howard and URI

As of right now, end of year 3, Hurley's recruiting is overrated and his unimaginative coaching has been a total disappointment.

I can appreciate your angst. I feel the same way as you do, but you're way off base on coach Hurley. Lack of execution at the rim is something that's all on the player, not the coaches. The coach isn't in there to make the shots fall! I can't explain and don't know why the players missed all those up close bunnies, or why the 3 pointers didn't fall, but to blame the coaches for lack of preparation is wrong. The kids were probably awe struck with the big stage and the bright lights of the tournament. Next year, after all his players he recruited are on the court, then maybe your criticism is applicable. On to next year!!

UConn shot a season low 32.3% on FGs, which is brutal, and it suggests that UConn just is not that good offensively, things we saw glimpses of all season that were hidden by defensive flourishes and transition offense against weaker teams, or the play of Bouknight when he was on. Those 2 things were bandaids over a wound that a lot of us were choosing to ignore, and we just could not ignore it last night. This is what Coach Hurley said about the loss in the presser:

“I think it was a tough matchup for us,” UConn coach Dan Hurley said. “We struggled against teams that switch a lot. There’s not a script when teams switch. It becomes a matchup ball. And [we] just didn’t have a lot of guys that could really win one-on-one matchups.”

UConn needs to continue to upgrade the talent level and be able to display competent offense against teams like this in the future.

Thoughts on a lineup next year?

1 Cole
2 Gafney or Jackson
3 Martin or Jackson
4 Akok
5 Sanogo

1 Diggins
2 Adam’s
3 Hawkins
4 Springs
4 Johnson

you are going to have to start Jackson, so is Gafney or Martin the 6th man? I’d think Gafney.

I think Johnson has to be the backup 5, no? I guess Carlton returning has been ruled out?

If Gaffney starts, you would have a very experienced starting 5.

1 Cole
2 Gafney or Jackson
3 Martin or Jackson
4 Akok
5 Sanogo

This is a pitiful shooting lineup and features no one that can get there own shot.
Does anyone think this is a starting 5 that can advance in the tourney?

So unexcited about the near future of UCONN basketball with DH at the helm........

Khalid, we don’t really have a true 5, even with Sanogo. it’s almost like there are only 3 positions in today’s game. PG, wing and Big.

I think we could use a transfer or even two, a shooter at Guard and an experienced Big. But I like the group we have coming back.

Cole and Martin are solid vets. Jackson is a freakish athlete with a handle and passing ability. His shooting is obviously a weakness. He plays a lot like one of the Ball brothers.

Sanogo looks like a big with a lot of potential as a low box scorer. Akok has two way stretch 4 upside.

Gafney has size and athleticism, but isn’t the best decision maker. Adam’s gives you solid depth off of the bench. Hopefully the frosh are ready to contribute.

I was wondering if Polley, Whaley or Carlton could come back?

Would only be interested in having Whaley back.
If he does it means Richie Springs cant play......................basically a lose lose
Carlton and Polley should not be allowed back

Polley is a specialist who isnt good at his specialty
35% from the college line and never takes a contested shot.
Good Bye

I think we could use a transfer or even two, a shooter at Guard and an experienced Big.

I agree, assuming Carlton isn't coming back, as he is kind of an ideal backup 5, although I am not sure being a backup 5 is exciting enough to entice him to come back. Sanogo is too foul prone not to have 10 solid fouls lined up behind him.

They could use a 3 point shooter to replace what Polley gave them, and honestly Polley was a little disappointing to me. I expected more from him, more games like he had against Marquette and Butler in back to back games. But they do need someone who can give them consistent 3 point production. Watching the NCAA tournament, lots of teams have better 3 point shooters than UConn does.

I would agree with CFP that the team they have coming back, while experienced and solid, doesn't really look like a championship level team. They don't have enough guys who can get their own shots and they are prone to performances like we saw last night when they come up against a tough, physical defense. You hope that all of these guys will improve, but I think they have limited ceilings. Jackson is talented but I don't see him as much of a scorer. He is a Daniel Hamilton type of guy who will give you assists and rebounds and some tough D but you will also get low shooting %s and deep shooting slumps. You need guys who can put the ball in the basket and not a plethora of guys who struggle to get their shots against good defense. Teams like that do not advance.

Syracuse's lack of depth at the 5 is being exposed right now, and is an example of why UConn needs 15 fouls at the 5. Dolezaj and Edwards both have 4 fouls with almost 13 minutes to go. After Edwards got number 4 Dolezaj came right back in and he will only be good for Matador Defense. This is why when you have foul prone 5s, you go 3 deep. The Cuse is in trouble in this game. WVU down by 4 and sure to go to work on Dolezaj.

I think not getting Polley more looks was on the guards and the coach. After he made both yesterday, he needed to get another solid look ASAP. He could have been better running off of screens, but we didn’t have enough high IQ guys with the ball in their hands imo.

We could play small at times next year with Martin at the 4, which would allow more fouls from the Bigs. But if a grad transfer wants in, please bring him. And recruit every 3 and D guys in the portal, that you can find.

I just read that every senior is eligible to return in ‘21-22. But having seen the aforementioned 3 celebrate senior night, you’d think they’ll opt not to stay? Or I guess they could transfer Out.

We need a clean break from the past. Carlton is the LAST person I want back. Whaley is just not the guy, if I ever see that guy shoot another shot outside of 2ft range I will be SOOO HAPPY, Tyler is a good kid but needs to leave.......develop the soph's, lean on Cole and Gaff and usher in the Freshman......no more ties to the past please.

The only one of the 3 I would want back is Carlton and only to serve as an experienced backup 5 rather than get a grad transfer or someone else new to the program. Carlton would be fine in that role of providing experienced bench minutes when Sanogo gets in foul trouble. I recognize it's highly unlikely that Carlton will come back next year to be a 13 minute a game backup, but in my opinion there should be an invitation sent to him for that role.

Am I excited about next year's roster? I will need to see the freshmen and anyone else they add, but the returning nucleus doesn't wildly excite me.

No offense but kind of a stupid post. We got 19 offensive rebounds and scored 9 points off them.I don't think you can blame Hurley for that? We also missed a ton of free throws can you blame Hurley for that? We finished 3rd in big east this year which was a huge improvement and made the tourney for the first time in 5 years. Hurley has a top 10 recruiting class coming in next year. Can you blame him for that?
Please keep your panties on. We are improving on schedule (actually ahead of schedule ! Chill out and enjoy the ride.

I watched the Maryland-Alabama game tonight thinking I would feel better about UConn's loss if I saw Maryland take it to Bama. Instead, I feel worse. Maryland can't stop Alabama. Alabama has made 8 3s already and it's not even halftime. They are getting easy open shots and running offense effortlessly against Maryland. Clearly, Alabama is a real team with a real offense. UConn just doesn't have a good offense. When you watch these NCAA teams you can see that. These teams run efficient and effortless offense, they make 3s and they don't miss bunnies around the basket.

Offensive rebounds mean nothing when guys can't score off of them. It's just a meaningless stat unless the balls go in the basket off an O board.

Unlike Blenner, someone that actually knows something about basketball.
Every game they played against quality NCAA competition was the same, they couldnt score and lost.

USC - 61 points
Creighton 1 - 66 points (in regulation)
Creighton 2 - 66 points
Villanova - 60 points
Creighton 3 - 56 points
Maryland - 54 points

Who gives a rats ass how many O-boards they racked up in these games?
They suck an offense, went 1-5 in these games and were a complete bore.

I dont see this changing much with the folks coming back.
Remember how bad the offense looked minus Bouknight for those 8 games?

Hopefully these recruits can actually put the ball in the basket but with DH judging there talent, I have my doubts.

We are improving on schedule (actually ahead of schedule ! Chill out and enjoy the ride.

Zero NCAA tourney wins after 3 years is on or ahead of schedule? At UCONN?
Let me guess Blenner works for the US postal service........................................

I wish I worked for the US Postal Service. I would have retired 20 years ago! The good news is I forgot more then Calhoun for President will ever know about basketball. Like I said before keep your panties on and enjoy the ride.

Alabama is so much better than us this year. They would have humiliated us.

I was very impressed by Alabama last night. They made Maryland's defense look like swiss cheese and racked up 96 points while shooting 53% and making 16 out of 33 3s. UConn was clearly inferior offensively and they need to upgrade the offensive talent on the team.

Puttin that UCONN EDU to work huh Blenner!
Only a pathetic loser would wish they were a mailman
You make Danny Hurley look like John Wooden

Go back to your shanty son
Calhoun I have to laugh at you. There are many people that work for the postal service that actually pay more in taxes then you have earned in your low level work. I think your family even laughs at what a dope you are!
