If Karaban doesn't play it'll be interesting to see DH's starting line-up seeing that Anderson plays a small ball line-up of 2 small guards, 6-4 and a 6-6 wing. Hurley could replace Karaban with Clingan but if that's the case( in a 2 bigs with 6-5, 6-5 and 6-6 line-up) DH would probably need to play Clingan at the bottom in a zone on D. To stop St. Johns small guards from getting to the rim. Other than that if DH goes smaller I'd see him starting Diarra, to match them, but I think that'll play right into Anderson's strength of him using his guards/wings to beat Uconn off the dribble.

St. John's is shooting 32% from 3 point land and considering the unfriendly rims at the XL Center, playing some 1-3-1 zone defense isn't a terrible idea.

Here is the UConn website preview, which has some interested quotes from Hurley and AJ:
"Our guards can't be as robotic as they've been," Hurley said. "When there's opportunity to get in the paint and make plays, they have to do it."

"That's the mindset, that's what we're telling each other," Jackson said. "We're going to put it together, we're going to figure it out. Big East basketball is different than the other teams we played. It's all about adjusting, locking into the scouting reports and being more ready and more prepared than the other team."

As Canolee mentioned in the other thread if DH put Sanago in the middle together on the court w/ Clingan underneath of a 1-3-1, St Johns would have a nightmare trying to guard Uconn's twin towers on the other end in their normal line-up. With Soriano playing D on one of them and 6-6 guard trying to guard the other.

I was actually responding to that comment by CanoLee. This is the right opponent against which to experiment with that defense

Exactly, it's what we've been talking vs. the BE refs and with DH's motion offense. It's focused on running screens outside the 3 pt line to get guys open and is perimeter based. When it gets stalled because of bumping and holding that is not called and the screens aren't working to get shooters like Hawkins and Joey open. The guys have to see it and look to beat their man off the dribble and push the defense towards the hoop. It'll force help D and then they can look for kickouts or lobs to the bigs off a drive.

That's how you keep these overplay defenses honest or try some back door cuts, etc., but they can't just keep passing it around the outside hoping a shooter will get open as the shot clock runs down.

im guessing we go small with AJ at the 4. But when Clingan comes in, go 1-3-1 if paired with Sanogo.
nice appetizer into the nfl playoffs And the girls at 4.

Hawk must be reading me and Blades criticisms on here. 😊

sanogo missing a 6 inch shot.

Our defense is swiss cheese since league play started. It has to start there. Can’t go on runs when the other team scores at will.

DAN it's clear as day to everyone but you... that your motion offense is owned because the BIG EAST Coaches have you figured out and stopped by the BE ref incompetence allowing fouling and denying..... When will you wake up and spread out the useless circling away from the hoop and play one on one off the dribble like every other team that owns you !

Do you even game plan for what I called.....before this game even happened ???
Or are you to stubborn to realize what your running now on both ends SUCKS!

Defense this game has been terrible. They should have been in a zone D way earlier.
Yeah except you don't play a 1-3-1 with 6-3/180lb JOEY under the hoop just waiting to get owned on a lob
( YEP DAN HURLEY actually used that on D )......SMH!

The big east refs should make below minimum wage. As sir Charles would say, Turrible!
I don't know what it looked on TV... but these BE refs looked even worse live at the XL....I don't want to go all Alex Jones on them, but this looks like there's some conspiracy going on here w/ the BE refs and DH !

But other coaches know how to, not you DH! Same useless offense, same D.... while you play right into their hands !!

UConn committed a staggering 30 personal fouls in this game (a significant sign of terrible man to man defense) and allowed 52% FG shooting. UConn also had 21 TOs on offense, at least 3 of which were guys stepping out of bounds. This is suckfest basketball.

Wow, did the stench of the men's game leave some kind of virus that the WBB team caught at the XL.
A 2 point halftime game vs. a 1-6 (in the BE) Georgtown team....
Yep, women sucked big time in the first half. UConn is actually up by 1 point, but doesn't deserve to be.

Sean Miller is going to win the Big East in his first year at Xavier while Hurley hasn’t even came close in his 5 years here. At what point does he have to do something meaningful at Uconn?
