It's been a tough season for ND so far as they have lost most of the team that made it to the NCAA championship game the last 2 years. They are 5-5 have beaten two top 25 teams in Michigan and USF, and lost to 2 top 25 teams in Tennessee and Michigan State. UConn traditionally has a lot of problems defending ND, but has a big advantage in talent and experience in the game today. It could be a competitive game but I expect UConn to win.

The line from 5Dimes is UConn -13.5 and O/U is 45. Take the over and ND on points to cover

I was there with my son. This team. They didn’t even play perfectly and were up 30 after 3.

No expectations. But something is brewing In storrs. ;)

Btw, I’ve looked everywhere for a basketball jersey for my son(6.5) for Christmas. On line. Dicks, etc... and today in the bookstore. Any suggestions? He is playing in a Norwalk biddy program and we just found out that he is on team UConn. :D

The way Walker has improved from sophomore to junior years reminds me of that other Walker- Kemba. She is looking like every bit as much the main man player.

ND has a smallish team and UConn, which really isn't that big either, hosed ND on the boards 48-32, which was the main reason ND was down 27 at half and 30 after 3. I would have preferred a stronger finish, but we can take a 24 point win over ND, a team that was in the finals the last 2 years.

Im right there with you, this team is getting better and that could mean we have a chance to steal a NC. I was thinking about what next year could look like and its SCARY. Paige and Evina along with a Jr. Williams, Jr. ONO , Sr. Walker and Soph AG......SCARY.

It was a 32 point lead with 3 to play, Khalid.

Dom, add in a soph Ania. I’ll say this, they better not let us win it this year, because we are about to own college basketball again. :)

Geno said in his presser after the game that Crystal is nowhere near 100% and also noted the "spotty" play of the freshmen, so the team can still improve even more.

I still do not understand why Adebayo only gets 2 minutes of action at the end of a blowout win. She is a deep bench player and gets walk on type minutes. Is this the same player who averaged 18 points and 12 boards for Murray State last year? Nobody seems to be talking about her.

Will Boutaly Camara be back soon?

I said that same thing about Adabayo to my step dad Khalid. +30 going into the 4rth, she couldn’t play the entire quarter? I think Geno probably wanted to beat his old friend by 40+.

Batouly was in a red dress. Looked like she was taking notes. It appeared that she Might already be coaching. She had another surgery, might be able to get a 6th year if she wanted. Although I’d trust the ncaa as far as I could throw them.

CaNolee,

Regarding Camara, her surgery was in early November and we were told 6-8 weeks, meaning by the end of the month she should be ready:

As far as I can see, the one weakness UConn has, which did not come into play yesterday but will later in the season against bigger teams like Baylor, Oregon and South Carolina, is a lack of size up front besides ONO, who still needs to get stronger. They need another player like Adebayo or Camara in the rotation, and this leaves me perplexed about why Geno has not played Adebayo more. If Oregon's 2 big girls put ONO into foul trouble, you can't suddenly put Adebayo in the game and expect much more than a body to absorb fouls. I think it is something they really need to do at least in the conference games- give her some run and have her ready. Otherwise it will be unfair to put her in suddenly like they did last year with Camara inserted to try and cover Baylor's 6'7" beast center, who fortunately has since graduated.

It also reminds me of a player named Wilnett Crockett who was on the 2003 championship team She was a greatly heralded power forward/center type, who was viewed as somewhat of an underachiever in comparison to high school accolades/rating, but in the Final 4 games in 2003 she got it done big time against the bigger teams UConn played. I recall her playing especially well in a close semifinal win vs. Texas. She was similar to Adebayo and Camara, but maybe an inch bigger than both of them. Very big girl in girth. She had some conditioning issues, like the similar but much more highly skilled Kaili McLaren. She improved as time went on, although she was not much or a scorer.

Adebayo doesn't really need to score. Her role is rebounding, and defense. She can be the Jamelle Elliott of this team.

You are preaching to the choir, Khalid. I love Geno, but I've been critical of his tight rotations the last 3 years. You may sacrifice a game or two in the regular season, but then you have a seasoned bench by the time postseason rolls around.

Why does he do that? I agree that maybe it costs a few games, but at this point that sacrifice seems to be worth it for the greater good of the team.

Khalid, I had a friend that liked Duke. He used to say thing about coach K. He didn’t play enough of his bench and not only did he wear out his starters in the regular season with heavy minutes, but if they had foul trouble(like that ever happens to a Pukie) or injury(more likely) they had no experience to go to.

I think it comes down to trust and Geno is a perfectionist. I didn’t watch every girls game before the last three years(I’m mush) until the final four. But you wonder if the 100+ wins and moving to the AAC made winning a national
Championship not enough anymore. When you’ve won as much as he has, you aren’t just competing against the field, but you are competing against yourself and ghosts of the past.

4 guests( including Fudd) for the ND game but talk about Geno putting high expectations:
