UConn WBB vs. Baylor

Line is UConn -2.5, over under 120. Line seems about right, o/u seems a bit low. I like the over.

The moment looks a little big for this young team. The whistle hasn’t been great, but Ono can’t have her way with other talented Bigs and Megan and Crystal are taking contested shots.

Baylor is really really good, they were not national champions last year by accident. They are playing good D. UConn is up by 5 on the boards but they haven’t had a lot of really good transition opportunities. Baylor has been defending UConn correctly and that’s why they are up 1 at half. ONO struggles whenever she plays someone big and strong but she has to give them a little more than zero. Not much out of Crystal who is matched up against a bigger stronger girl who horsed her a few times.

She is being well defended when she has tried to drive. Baylor’s guards are very good. All of Richards passes have been on the money and Cooper is a load to cover.

Baylor’s size and defense has killed UConn’s ability to play its usual game.

They fell in love with the 3 in the 4rth. A lot of uncharacteristic bad shots.

It’s not the worst the thing In the world to face an elite team and see what you have to prepare for in the next 3 months. Lick your wounds and get better.

Not sure why geno sat Ono, she needs to learn how to play against size and talent like this.

UConn was up 5 on the boards at halftime and ended up losing the boards by 9, meaning Baylor outrebounded UConn by 14 in the second half. That type of one half board crushing is not survivable in most college basketball games, unless you shoot 70%. We suspected UConn would have problems when they played against bigger teams, and they did.

ONO had 0 points and 6 boards in 23 minutes. It's not what you want from your starting center. Who 2 games ago had 27 and 15. The only problem with benching her in my mind is that there is no other 5 and no other better rebounding option in the middle.

UConn has not recruited the right players for the last 4 years. Geno, as great as he is, missed the boat and didn't recruit beef and athleticism. Baylor, SC, ND (not this year), etc.....recruited to beat UConn and its worked like a charm and Geno has not adjusted. Tall

Last night just proves that again.......

We have a shot to win the NC just like we have the past 4 years but when the shots dont fall we lose. Sounds simple but we dont have any other way to win. We have no half court game, we dont have beef to defend others beaf to slow the game down.....we either shoot the 3 well or we lose to the top 5 or 6 teams.

Again, I am so grateful for what Geno has done....AMAZING......wont be done again probably in any sport BUT if we don't get another Stewie which Paige could be, we will just be the 5th or 6th best team in terms of a true chance to win it all.
