UConn WBB AP Preseason #3 in USA

I think much of the success of the team rides on Chrystyn Williams. She is widely being touted as a preseason POY in the Big East, but she did not have a perfect season last year and there is a lot of areas where she needs improvement. She had deep shooting slumps and is streaky shooting 3s, and apart from that, my uncle, an astute observer of the women, was sharply critical of her play. My uncle was particularly critical of her play in halfcourt offensive sets. She is clearly a dynamic player and one of the best in the nation in transition. In the halfcourt offense, my uncle thought that she was not on the same page as her teammates and it often seemed like the other 4 on the Court with her never knew what she was going to be doing. I did see some evidence of this to support what my uncle was saying. I think she was adjusting to her role in the offense with Walker and Dangerfield as really the primary options. Sort of like Kemba Walker his sophomore year. Many observers have blamed Jerome Dyson for Kemba's poor sophomore season, but at the time I did not see it that way. I thought Kemba was out of control and wild for about 3/4 of that season, and the light bulb went on at the end, while Dyson was still his backcourt mate. He then made the greatest single season improvement ever from his sophomore to junior season, IMHO, as far as decision making and scoring efficiency. Williams has the potential to make the same jump as Kemba. I am rooting for her to do so. She is a powerful player and extremely dynamic in transition, now she needs to integrate herself into the halfcourt offense and develop chemistry with Westbrook and Bueckers who will likely be her running mates in 2 and 3 guard sets.
