Uconn vs. Memphis - SUN 2pm @ FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN (TV: CBS SN)

UConn covered the spread and they did a good job in this one all things considered. Sid Wilson and Tyler Polley both played great and Tarin Smith did a nice job playing point guard for 40 minutes. I felt the game might have been even if UConn got some better breaks on loose balls and converted a few more buckets. They did stand up to Memphis.

7 players ......( really 6 because Carlton couldn't stay on the floor with some marginal fouls)........got to give the guys credit for hangin' in there with almost no subs. Big shout out to T-Smith ( zero TO's) like you said KSTW. Great job fillin in with his handle and running the O. It's still amazes me that a team that pressured Uconn all over the court and bumped them everytime they dribbled or drove to the hoop, had less fouls. I guess that's why they call it the home court advantage.

The pressure is off for any success tourney wise so good to see the players getting better. KO never got anyone BETTER and I can see Josh, Sid and Tyler getting better. Sid will be a very good player for us next year I have no doubt.

Sidney Wilson made some very athletic looking plays and finishes on both ends and he is getting more and more comfortable. I would like to see Sal Alosi soup up his body a little bit in the offseason. He needs more muscle. Sidney should continue to start and Tarin Smith should go to the bench when Gilbert returns. Smith didn’t do anything to deserve to go back to the bench, but UConn should just start 2 guards, and let Wilson start and get as many minutes as possible to assist his development. The area where Polley and Wilson need to improve most is rebounding the ball. Although they grabbed 6 boards each and UConn outrebounded Memphis by 9, they need to do this consistently. Cobb had 11 boards and Vital, the team rebounding leader, solidified his lead over Carlton with 9 boards to go with 6 assists and 13 points. Vital since the injuries to Gilbert and Adams has been putting up massive numbers, including a double double and he may even flirt with a triple double soon.
