Iona vs. UConn WED - 7:00 P.M. @ Gampel Pavilion - TV: SNY
....Iona has made the NCAA's 4 years in a row.

Hartford’s E.J. Crawford leading Iona, gets to come home to play against UConn

The spread is deceptive IMHO. It is a trap game and I wouldn't touch it if I was in Vegas. Iona is the MAAC conference favorite and has 3 All-MAAC players in their lineup.

Carlton looks a lot different tonight. Still need a lot more stops.

The second team kind of laid an egg in the first half. Nothing out of Bouknight, which will probably change, but Agee went nuts on Whaley which kind of confirms that Whaley getting major minutes at the 5 against big strong guys is not what you really want, but not really any choice but to play him as a backup 5. Sidney, Adams and Gaffney did not do much either. The whole second unit sucked donkey balls but I think they will be better second half. UConn is a second half team.

Iona is a good. But a game that should be 37-27 if we were really good. Let’s see how we counter.

Although an 18 point win over Iona has to be considered satisfying, somehow you were left wanting a bit more. The second team has to give them a bit more than this against Indiana.

Defense is not Bouknight’s forte. It’s the main reason he isn’t getting more minutes than he is, although last night he did not do much on offense and the attempt to posterize Agee didn’t end very well. The second team as a whole didn’t play well last night, but fortunately the starters all did.

Gilbert has 9 assists so far
I loved listening to the interview on ESPN 97.9 driving home from Gampel with Tom Moore. Everything we have criticized (everyone has) regarding Alterique was talked about and how AG is finally becoming a PG. And even how the GM's, etc. at the next level need to see him play that way even though alot of kids at this level think only one number (PPG) maters...but TM said that's not the case if he wants to play pro.

It's amazing the transformation he has made recently since he was ripped on social media and how the coaches (even DH in the post game) are all explaining how AG's been working with Taliek and how it's all their job to teach him what his role is. Tom Moore said DH even told AG after the game he can live with a couple of bad "heat check" 3 pointers, because he earned it with all the other stuff he did. ...the lock down D, 10-1 Asst-TO's and being a leader @ the PG spot. As predicted if he doesn't take quick, rushed shots and the bad drives ( he was 3-6 on 3's even with those 27 ft prayers) his FG% might even go up....:)

AG's FG% has risen to the high 20s, so he out of the famous Craig Austrie/Daniel Hamilton low 20s slump range for now. He has taken some better 3 point shots, but has done a better job being a pass first PG and with his decision making. At times you see why he was a McDonald's AA with his recent play.

.....Yes to all of this and understanding his roll has been corrected 4/5 games in so he has a chance to improve even more....I'd say with some certainty this wouldn't have happened with the last regime, because things usually got worse not better.

On another note the halftime adjustments and confusion they caused Agee and Crawford were pure science by DH and Co. and also discussed by Moore.

"In a double-overtime loss to Xavier in the second of three games in Charleston, Gilbert twice failed to get off a potentially game-winning shot and finished 2-for-13 from the field. That brought his total through five games to 12-for-58 (20.7 percent). He didn’t appear to have a handle on what was possible for, or required of, a point guard............."

"So to consider that is to understand what a breathe-easy moment Wednesday night really was. Gilbert stood in a Gampel Pavilion weight room, addressing the media and shedding any leftover heavy baggage, after pushing UConn to an 80-62 victory over Iona.....Efficient, responsible and even joyful, Gilbert had 12 points, 10 assists and just one turnover. He was the adult for 33 minutes, a dog on defense and an engineer on offense. ...........That dark hole? History. Maybe helpful, in the long run. The way Gilbert is playing and feeling right now represents all that is great about being able to bounce back in sports with some help. Even leaders — and Gilbert is, without question, UConn’s leader — sometimes need support. "

“I didn't do a very good job of coaching him early in the season,” Hurley said. “He's made adjustments, but as a staff I think we're not letting him down the way we were early. We really didn't have him playing to his strengths and the strengths of the team. I just love where it's going with him. He's so focused on his leadership and trying to make people around him better. It looks like he's really starting to understand the position.”

The biggest adjustment was removing Whaley from covering Agee because he was totally overmatched. I also felt sorry for him and it was a mercy benching when he was removed. You didn’t see much of Whaley in the second half. Unlike Whaley, Carlton played tough D on Agee and blocked his shots a few times. But the fact that UConn adjusted and calmed those two (Agee and Crawford) down helped. It also helped that Agee sprained his ankle on a noncontact misstep while driving on Carlton.

Yeah he had a rough stretch and it was amplified because that was when the entire second unit wasn't doing much. Right after DH did a hockey sub with 4 of the 5 out besides IW. From where I sit both of Agee's scores could have been offensive fouls. But even with all that, he scored 4 points total on Whaley. On the plus IW stole it and caused a TO on him and blocked his shot too...but CV fouled him on the same play... Whaley only played 6 minutes but he was 2-3 shooting himself so either way it was a push when he was out there...I'd say Josh was slightly better but he still "helped" give up 12 of Agee's 14 pts in the first half.

Moore said the biggest halftime change was that they decided to double team more and sluffing down was the difference, ( like teams do to Carlton all the time)... Said Carlton gave up to many points himself when they left him on an island in the first half. So the coaches realized they had to change that in the second. Same thing with Crawford when he got the ball and Moore said they wanted to force him away from his left with a sluffing double team. But it was easier to double Agee because he plays closer to the hoop. And with the way Josh was manin' up on O ( the opposite of the Maine game) it was hard to keep him or the rest of the starters off the floor.

Big picture is Uconn MBB now has good coaching !

Blades and Canolee: SPOT ON.

This AG is the AG we need. The assists and D are a TB special and what a difference it makes for this team. No more wild drives to the rim and stalling for last minute pathetic shots. This AG can be special and credit to DH and TB. Man, you guys both said it, WHAT A DIFFERENCE HAVING REAL COACHES CAN MAKE!

I was critical of Danny for this twitter hating but he cooled off and man alive if you dont think this guy is the real deal now after two AMAZING second half adjustments then WHOEVER THOSE people are THEY don't know basketball.

I just feel great after this game. The first half was terrible with Vital being the main culprit but the second half was UConn team ball like we haven't seen in YEARS. Wow.

Can you imagine this team with Cole in there?
