Biggest day of the year in UConn hoops. UConn men v Arizona on ESPN2 at 1 pm followed by #1 ND and #2 UConn on ESPN at 4 pm. A UConn hoops afternoon doubleheader!!!

From the Sid Wilson article:
" As of Friday afternoon, UConn said there were less than 1,000 tickets still available for the game Sunday against Arizona."

I was looking at Arizona’s stats and they are not a good shooting team. They are shooting only 31% on 3s and 45% on FGs. By contrast for UConn the numbers are 34% on 3s (have cooled off since Syracuse game) 49% on FGs (very good). UConn 3 point numbers are very average, but Arizona is decidedly below average.

That article begs the question of when we will see Hurley v. Hurley coaching matchup and whether it could happen in NCAA tourney before regular season. It would be most anticipated brother v. brother coaching matchup since Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh matchup in the Super Bowl a few years back when the better Harbaugh won.

The NCAA selection committee has a history of doing stuff like that in early round games so I kind of expect that before the regular season matchup. And then Bob Hurley Sr. will have to decide whether he wears UConn cap to game or UConn cap and Arizona St shirt.

BTW, per the article Blades posted, Hurley family pride on the line today as Miller is 7-0 against the Hurleys (6-0 vs. Bobby, 1-0 vs. Danny) and that undefeated streak needs to be stopped.

Cobb and Wilson both came to play today. Cobb is rising up to the challenge in the big games against good teams!

10 TOs was the story for UConn first half. Bad decisions by guards, ineffective point guard play by Gilbert. But only down 4 with a DEEP squad.

Just got back from the game, to much Vital, AG and a slanted whistle, IMHO. CV is poison ( 7 TO's and 1 asst) in games like this, loves hero ball, out of control drives right out of the gate.. He kills ball movement . Then Gilbert follows suit instead of sharing he only wants to drive and shoot (3-12) Besides those 2 and the one side whistle, it could have been a nice Uconn win.

Gilbert and CV were both very bad with the decision making. CV we have seen do this before and his TOs really hurt, although he did have the highlight play of the game with the incredible and 1. But he was a net negative. Gilbert was really bad - bad shots, ineffective penetration. He isn’t a smart player in the mold of Khalid El Amin. KEA knew what he was doing out there and organized the team. Gilbert just doesn’t play really smart and the ineffective penetrations and bad shots led to easy buckets the other way, ditto with CV.

However despite that really bad play from two starting guards UConn only lost by 4 and was in it to the end, which gives one hope that if AG and CV can play better, UConn will win a few of these OOC games. However they have to beat FSU or Nova on neutral courts or their resume will not look good.

It was a hard fought game, but it was not a smart-fought game by UConn. The guards just have to play smarter, unselfish basketballl.
