In determining our top 50 coaches, we attempted to look at a variety of factor: Past success, regular season records, conference records, NCAA Tournament results, head-to-head rankings, team trends and records relative to the history of the program.

3. Izzo [MSU]
4. Pitino [UL]
5. Bo Ryan [Wisconsin]
6. Self [KU]
7. Sean Miller [Zona]
8. Tony Bennett [UVA]
9. Gregg Marshall [Wichita State]
10. Roy Williams [UNC]
11. Boeheim [Cuse]
12. Beilein [Michigan]
13. Jay Wright [Villanova]
14. Thad Matta [Ohio State]
15. Mark Few [Gonzaga]
16. Shaka [Texas]
17. KO
Record at UConn: 72–33, 32–22 Big East/American
NCAA record: 6–0, one Final Four, one championship
Number to note: Under Ollie, UConn is 6–12 against KenPom top 100 teams in American Athletic Conference teams (10–14 including the league tournament).
Why he’s ranked here: The unlikely national championship run in 2014 vaulted Ollie to stardom. Apart from those three weeks, UConn has been mediocre. This should be a more typical season for a Huskies team wholly assembled under Ollie.
18. Kruger [Oklahoma]
19. Huggins [West Virginia]
20. Steve Fisher [SDSU]

I guess success means literally nothing. I would put Ollie #3 or #2 considering UK's brand drives Cal.

I would like to see Ollie higher but can understand his placement. Short sample size is probably what is keeping him a little lower than what most would like. Every coach above him has a longer track record of success and if you look at things from a non UConn prospective Ollie has only made the NCAA tourney once in 3 years. Publications probably also want to see how he does with a team assembled of his own players.

Yes he wasnt eligible his 1st year and then won the whole thing in his 2nd year and then 3rd season missed the tourney. He hasnt won a conference championship or regular season championship. I think these rankings are pretty reasonable.

If not for his NCAA title he might not even be top 20. All of those coaches ahead of him are fantastic coaches.

I agree with UConn Family. Considering the track record of the coaches in front of Ollie he was given a generous placement. However the manner in which UConn won the tournament in 2014- and in particular the defense they played and the way the team as a whole played- cannot be ignored. They were out-personneled up front in a number of games and decisively defeated those opponents. Now Ollie has a team of his own guys for really the first time and though he has had a stellar won-loss record we find out how good he really is the next couple years.
