.....especially in FB when there are thousands of kids, per class, (way to many to ever rate effectively ) that are just bumped up ( or down) and now listed based on who "supposedly" offers them, I guess now we have RATING WARS :

Fake recruit ranked on Rivals, leads 247Sports to change policy | SI.com

" After the incident, 247Sports's founder and CEO Shannon Terry announced a change in their policy on Twitter. Terry also called out Rivals for the mistake. "Yday a national recruiting service rated a prospect that doesn't exist," Terry said. "Unfortunately, that service's public data contributes to the 247 Composite. While appalling, I am not surprised......Ironically, it was the same lil brother service that took shots at 247 on NSD," Terry continued.

They were apparently Catfished by a burner Twitter account which also fooled other media outlets. More on this story here:

This is not the first time something like this happened, and with the total lack of regulation of burner Twitter accounts it is gonna happen again. Earlier this year the Philadelphia 76ers GM was fired after it was discovered that confidential information about players (including their medical info) was being leaked by his wife on a burner Twitter account. Someone in the immediately family lost their job because of that faux pas. In this case, however, it's a good old fashioned hoaxster who is guilty only of having a wild imagination. Nobody's confidential info was leaked; it was just made up shit posted to see who would run with it and a bunch of media did.

That's a completely different case on NBA info ....but a bigger joke of these rating services , as it mentions, is that as soon as Rivals, 24/7etc. believe someone gets an off offers from " Alabama, Georgia, etc ", they suddenly become a 3 star or more " even though no evaluation is done whatsoever.
Farrell the Rivals " FB expert" who was also big BC fan did this for years as soon as a player had an offer from the Eagles. At least according to the guys who used to be on this site B4 they left back in the mid 2000's...But guys like Uconn's Byron Jones who is an NFL all-pro/ 1st rounder for Dallas was only a 2 star, etc., etc., etc... it happens way to many times to mention...this is just proof that alot of it is bunk, especially in FB where there isn't as much head to head comp to rate recruits like in AAU BB.

That reminds me that I read a story once about Tom Brady’s recruitment as a high school football player. The bigger schools showed very little interest in him including Michigan where he ended up playing. Brady or his father apparently knew someone at Michigan and he and his father compiled a highlights video and mailed (this was pre-internet days) it to the person they knew that was connected to the Michigan football program. Who brought the video to the attention of the coaching staff. But for doing that, Michigan never would have seen him and he never would have been offered. Brady was only recruited by small schools in California and Oregon you never heard of. He then had an up and down career at Michigan at one point starting, getting benched and then starting again. I think that and the fact that he was a nobody coming out of high school was why he was a 6th round NFL draft choice. Brady himself has said he was a late bloomer and that when he got in the pros he improved his conditioning and arm strength and worked very hard to be what he eventually became.

So yeah in football even now there are lots of hidden gems like Byron Jones although with the internet it seems like scouting should have improved.

Sometimes in makes you wonder if they are hidden or rated by the number of paying members that a schools site had, another claim made by the old Boneyard guys. Rutgers sucked for years but their players always seemed to get decent bumps, again back in the BE football days. Gotta keep the paying natives happy and excited...;)
