Basketball Projecting this year's starting five

As mentioned elsewhere, with the depth that UConn has and the small ball teams on the schedule, multiple starting lineups can/should be utilized. UConn might go bigger against big teams like Creighton and Xavier and perhaps smaller against Villanova. As always, injuries, slumps, tough matchups and other issues will likely cause adjustments in playing time and starting roles through the entire roster. I am curious about whether we will see much of the young Israeli and Greek guys they just added, who seem like much better than good walk on talent. They may be developmental players like Springs, or better. We will see.

True, we've been discussing this for months as the additions to the team keep coming. And starting will probably not matter, as much as PT based on match ups vs. the opponent which will keep evolving, game to game.

As quoted this past week “We already know we can play 10 right here,” Hurley said, “and the 10th guy may even deserve a little bit more than he’s gonna get. At the minimum we know we’ve got 10 that have a chance to battle for top-nine minutes or top-eight minutes. It’s the most competitive top 10 that we’ve had since I’ve been here.”

On paper it looks like an exceptionally deep roster. We have said that in past years and as the past years went on, the depth was not so apparent. We will need to see how things shake out, but there could be quite a battle for playing time in the 6-10 slots. It would appear that the 1-5 slots will not need to play as many minutes as last year. There should be no excuse this year that "Sanogo was exhausted and ineffective" in the postseason.
