OT- Uconn Hockey (FRI- 5pm vs. Providence)

Tough loss 2-1 vs. Umass-Lowell on a fluky late goal that popped way up in the air and landed on a bad guys stick in front of the Uconn net. Huskies take on Umass at 3:30 on WED (NESN) ....here's a story on 2 of the guys Uconn is missing until after the World Junior Tourney, the 1st two Russians ever to play for their national team from an NCAA college team.

Uconn starts a FRI /SAT home & home----
with today's NEW YEARS Matinee @ UNH ..live 4pm on NESN

Huskies get a point with regulation tie.....remain in 4th place in HE.

While conveniently omitting from their article that Uconn's top ranked NHL draft picks ( a defenseman and forward) where not playing for Uconn because they have left the Huskies for a few weeks to play for mother Russia in the same World junior championships....Also a 3rd NHL pick( 2nd by the Islanders) from Russia left Uconn just prior to the season because of Covid and turned pro.....maybe as Calhoun said they " should get some facts and get back to us ! ".....LOL!

Interesting that one of BC's "missing guys" last night shutout Canada in the World Juniors championship game. Goalie Spencer Knight who is a Connecticut kid that got away from UConn. Congrats to him and the entire US hockey team in pulling off the 2-0 upset of Canada to win it.

Meanwhile Russia was beaten by Canada in the semis so UConn's Russian dudes should be back soon.

So they're back in less than 2 weeks- FALSE ALARM- ( it will make it 4 games in a row vs. UNH)
"After repeat testing, it has been determined that the positive test within the program announced last week was a false positive. The entire team has continued to test negative and the Huskies have been cleared to return to competition by the team's medical personnel. "

BC has back their goalie who won the World Juniors Championship with a shutout of Canada for Team USA in the finals. He had 3 shutouts in that tournament.

And Uconn has 3 NHL pics that didn't play the last time vs. BC.
" The Huskies welcomed back sophomores Vladislav Firstov and Yan Kuznetsov last weekend and the duo both contributed to the Huskies' sweep. They played in the season-opening series with UMass (Nov. 20-21) then departed back to Russia to join the national team for the IIHF World Junior Championship. ......and UConn's newest roster addition, Toronto Maple leafs pick who was added this semester....freshman Ryan Tverberg who scored his first career goal and also had an assist in the 8-3 win on the road at UNH......With the addition of Tverberg, the Husky lineup will feature nine NHL draft picks in 2020-21, a new program-high."

Also another Uconn NHL pick Kale Howarth who's been injured for about 3 weeks, is back ...So no excuses !

Uconn " BEAT Spencer Knight like a rented MULE"...with 2 goals in the last 3 min to tie, then 2 for 2 in the shoot out for the SW !

Shootout win for UConn, but does that count as a win or a tie?
It's a a tie in the standings but equally important is the 2 points for the SW (shootout win) So they went from zero points to 2 with the comeback.....

And the Shootout W ....as Vomacka stones BC on both their tries

These new hockey rules are bizarre to me. In my book a win is a win, otherwise "just win baby" doesn't mean anything and you should just end the freaking game in a tie. If a game is not going to end in a tie, it must be because a win means something, right? So the rules should reflect that.

I just checked and fortunately for those who are streaming Hulu Live TV and do not get CW20 there is a live stream link to the hockey game here:

Yeah, I downloaded the CBS sports app to my Roku interface, so besides being able to watch it on the computer it was cool to be able to watch it on the big screen with relative ease.

Uconn goes on the road for the W ...(playing only their 2nd unranked team this year)
