By all accounts, he had completely lost his team and had been admitting it in recent pressers, as had his players:
It's clear that what he did to Dino Gaudio bit him in the ass on 3 fronts:
(1) It got him suspended for 6 games for not following university procedures in firing Dino Gaudio, which I am sure did not impress his players;
(2) The info Dino had and and extorted him with eventually came out, and led to an investigation of his watch at UL, which was apparently less than Kosher;
(3) I am guessing some of the players liked Dino and did not care for the way he was literally knifed in the back and brought down with secretly taped conversations and criminal charges, only to be very lightly punished for what he did.
He would have been better off paying off Dino.
As for Luke Murray, it is pretty clear that Chris Mack did Luke a tremendous favor by firing him, which was equivalent to parachuting out of a plane before it crashes.
