Ollie costs the team a scholly for 2019

I have a sense that UConn did this in part to use it as leverage in the settlement of the Ollie contract buyout. They can argue Ollie cost them a scholarship.

Ah yes, it's all a conspiracy, Uconn and the NCAA are best buddies & they're working together..... LOL!

Not working with the NCAA, but fearing the NCAA, is the reason self-penalties are usually imposed, so that the investigated school gets "credit" towards any possible NCAA sanctions.

" Nothing is certain still — the NCAA could dock the Huskies another scholarship, though that would seen unlikely — but UConn will be down at least one scholarship for next season......When you’re at 12 scholarship players, an injury or two could throw a season out of whack, depleting depth."

More regarding recruiting in the article: "Achiuwa is the same type of player as Akok — a big wing/combo with elite athleticism and some perimeter skills. But, despite Josh Carlton’s recent strong play, the Huskies need traditional big men, as well. ......And, the Huskies will be scouring the junior college, grad transfer and even regular transfer markets in their continued hunt for some size."

"That’s a lot of different potential players for just one available spot. But things happen in college basketball, and while no players transferred after Hurley took over the program, it’s certainly possible players could leave after this season. It was only a couple of years ago that UConn lost three players to transfer, along with its top incoming recruit, in the span of about a month."

This is where losing the scholly really hurts. Ideally, it would be nice to use one scholly on Achiuwa and one on a big, beefy 5 with some rim protection abilities. But unless someone transfers it’s not going to happen. There is of course the possibility that Vital enters the NBA draft, which could create the other scholly to then be used on big beef. I don’t think Vital would get drafted but he might feel otherwise. He did last year at some point.

The team’s biggest weakness now is lack of rim protection. The Yakwe injury was killer because he was the only legit rim protector albeit undersized. In some recent games I have seen lots of easy shots and scores inside. It was never like this before. Carlton has played better but he seems better on O than on D.
