Well here come the co-eds ( about 5,000 students returned to UConn’s Storrs campus last Friday.......no team had a positive since June), there goes the Covid issues:
The thing about Mohegan Sun that is worrisome is they don't answer to State authorities or anyone else really. I am licensed to practice there and they are a de facto sovereign country with their own laws. This was a real problem for our Governor because he couldn't order them to do anything and they opened when they wanted to and not when he wanted to. So what worries me is who is calling the shots on this and what medical standards must be adhered to. Mohegan wants the money from such tournaments to offset their decrease in revenue- we all get that. But will they look the other way on player safety or will the NCAA negotiate having their own people call the shots on those things? Like compliance officers etc. I note the Casino has its own security and I have represented clients who were forcibly removed from the Casino for various offenses perceived or real. Will the Casino security guys be the watchdogs or NCAA compliance officers? Stay tuned.
Someone got ahold of the DOC's and the NCAA pitch by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame " about how it plans to host at least 32 games for at least 16 teams in a bubble from Dec. 9-20, "
Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, is where the still-unnamed event would take place. The Hall of Fame would operate the event with substantial assistance from Mohegan Sun. Frequent COVID-19 testing would be provided by Connecticut-based Hartford Healthcare. "there will either be no fans admitted or a very limited capacity, using the upper level of the Arena. The property is open every day to guests so friends and family may attend Mohegan Sun and any interaction between friends and family are subject to review by each school."
