#UConn opens the 2015-16 season with "First Night" on Oct. 16. #BleedBlue DETAILS: http://bit.ly/1L2jU60

This year’s show will once again be headlined by an inter-squad scrimmage with one team coached by head women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma and the other coached by head men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie. The night will feature a state of the art light show, 3-point shooting contest, dunk contest, performances by the Pep Band, prize giveaways and so much more.

The last First Night I attended a few years back the UConn women scrimmaged against a team of men Geno had apparently hand-picked out of the UConn intramural leagues, who were also used as practice players. It was a highly competitive scrimmage. The women were winning for a while, but as the game went on the physicality and strength of the men started to wear the women down as they were getting pushed off their spots. The men's team's best player was a 5'10" or so, blonde haired white kid who was just draining jumpers from all over the floor. He clearly was probably a good high school baller for Windsor or Northwest Catholic. It ended up being a very close game and I think the guys may have barely lost. After the game Geno spoke to the crowd and he especially praised the men's team he had picked, thanking them for being practice players and helping the women get better.

Guess you don't know Windsor to well, If you ain't a lock down defender and athlete... you'll never see the floor no matter how you shoot, so I haven't seen any of those type kids playing for the Warriors for years....LOL !

Blades,

The reason I mentioned Windsor or NW Catholic is that I seem to recall someone in the stands saying the kid had balled at one of those schools, but he could have been wrong, or I could have heard him wrong, or I could have "misremembered", like Andy Pettite did when he said Roger Clemens shot up his ass with HGH.

Only Khalid would have this much insight on a First Night Women's team scrimmage vs the men practice squad. I'm more captivated with the 3 point shootout and the Dunk contest as opposed to these boring scrimmages. I'm happy the dunk contest returns.

The Boat vs Drummond battle was truly epic...and little did we know that season would be all downhill after that hahaha

+1 Ozzie....this ^ as I highlighted in the OP...should be some new blood for the dunk contest with Jalen being my dark horse favorite !

That last First Night I attended if I recall correctly Niels Giffey was a freshman so it was 2010 and he made the finals of the 3 point contest. I can't remember if it was Roscoe who also made the finals but I think Giffey won it.

The Oz man will definitely be in the building!! I will be there on Thursday to watch practice and chat it up with KO and the coaches. Also Saturday and Sunday. Can't wait!!

I'm happy they listened and brought back the dunk contest!!

Blades I'm with you no one is beating Jalen unless he misses a lot.

I like Gibbs in the 3 contest(obviously lol) with maybe DHam pulling a slight upset. As always will be a great time up in ole Storrs CT!!

Btw congrats to DHam on winnin the Husky run today

That boy is ready!!!!!!

A dark horse to upset Gibbs in the 3 point contest is Sam Cassell Jr. In the dunk contest don't count out Rodney Purvis.

Regarding the Husky Run, it should be noted the defending champion Amida Brimah sat out with an ankle injury:
http://sportzedge.com/2015/09/30/da...room-then-finished-first-in-uconns-husky-run/
Brimah's time last year was 9 seconds faster than Danny H's winning time last year.

Big shout out and props to D-Ham, he must be doing work..... took 3 and half minutes off his time from last year:
2014 times:
Amida Brimah – 20:22 , Omar Calhoun – 20:51 , Head Coach Kevin Ollie – 21:25, Kentan Facey – 21:48 , Ryan Boatright – 21:50, Terrence Samuel – 22:12, Terrance Ditimi – Dan Guest – 23:29, Daniel Hamilton – 24:01 , Rodney Purvis – 25:37 , Sam Cassell Jr. – 25:38, Phillip Nolan – 25:46, Nnamdi Amilo – 26:40, Rakim Lubin – 29:14, Pat Lenehan – Did not run

2015: Daniel Hamilton 20:31. Kentan Facey (21:41) Omar Calhoun 22:43, Steve Enoch (23:24), Christian Foxen (23:48), Jalen Adams (24:59), Sterling Gibbs (25:12), Rodney Purvis (25:34), Terry Larrier (26:15), Shonn Miller (26:15), Phillip Nolan (26:30), Nnamdi Amilo (29:44).

Also like this quote: "Coach Ollie is really, really [mad] at us because I think we were 305th in the nation in transition baskets," Purvis said. "We've got fast guys on our team, so that's pitiful. We're going to be a track team, based on the way he's been prepping us and how much we've been running, training, so I think we'll be very, very fast. Jalen is great in the open court and Coach Ollie is going to put him in a position to have some fun and score some points."

Also saw this roster. Amilo, Foxen are walk-ons (for now).:

Also regarding D-Ham from the NHR:
* Hamilton ready to take on new role as leader
With that in mind, Hamilton got in “the best shape of my life” over the summer, working out in Santa Monica, California with Oklahoma City’s Reggie Jackson, ex-UConn guard Marcus Williams (“my brother’s best friend,” according to Hamilton), and Indiana’s Chase Budinger, among others.

Blades,

Is that a screen shot of the roster, or can you post a link?

Is Christian Foxen ready to play some minutes at the 4 if everyone gets into foul trouble or there are some injuries? Anyone know if he can shoot the 3? I didn't follow Rocky Hill basketball.

Just a screen shot that the NHR's Borges put on twitter....Foxen was a practice player/walk-on they activated last year in Puerto Rico when KO suspended those guys "The Huskies, who brought extra players, added a walk-on Christian Foxen, a 6-8 freshman from Rocky Hill, to its active roster. He’s wearing No. 55." He played at South Kent Prep- Christian Foxen - New England Recruiting Report and he wasn't highly rated but they have him listed on the roster..... looks like not even clean-up action PT last year: Christian Foxen Bio - UConn Huskies
