Full read Courant: Edsall's Open Door Policy Brings Former UConn Players, State College Coaches To Storrs

"A walk down the hallway is a walk through UConn football history, silent reminders of when the program used to make noise. Missing over the years — not completely, but usually — was the actual presence of many of those players, with most having played during Randy Edsall's first stint as UConn coach (1999-2010) and without a true connection over the past six seasons.

"It's always good to see alumni come back," sophomore left tackle Matt Peart said. "It's just a nice feeling to see that I'm representing what they built "

In total, about a dozen former UConn players have returned to watch a practice and spend time with Edsall and the staff in the past three weeks. Among the players (from various eras) to return during spring practice are Geremy Davis, Andrew Adams, Todman, DJ Hernandez, Matt Latham, Lou Donato, Quanear Gaskin, Abbott Burrell, Andy Bessette, Zach Hurd, Orlovsky and Smallwood. Lutrus, Rob Lunn and Dan Ryan plan to visit next week.

The coaching staffs from other CT programs recently attended practices. They were barred from attending practices under Diaco. ......"We're just trying to help each other out, helping guys in our profession to get better, but it also gives us an opportunity to pick their brains a little bit, too. It's good professional development for everybody involved."
