Gilbert has a back issue - not clear whether he'll play, and, if so, whether he'll be 100%.
Hurley came out and said, "you have to earn the right to play for UConn, and I'll play with 6 if need be," or words to that effect. The point being that he's not going to play Sid just because we are desperate. For that, my respect went up even further for the guy.
Some fans are saying, "it's not fair to the other 6 guys if Sid stays suspended," and "it's not good for the program." Holy flying balls of flaming s----t, Batman. You've got to be kidding me. Talk about short-sighted. It's all about the culture now. This season is about wrapped up. The team cultural concept that Hurley is instilling will resonate with every player for the rest of their careers here. That is massively more important than maybe winning one more game this year. It's so incredibly short sighted to want Hurley to bend his rules because we're down to 7 guys.
The funniest part? These myopic fans who want to play Sid to improve (slightly) our chances of winning have no idea what he did to merit the suspension. Lol. They are actually so short sighted they are willing to, it seems, overlook any infraction of team rules and play Sid . . . just because it may help. That attitude is how you create a losing program.
Sid didn't get it. Sid doesn't get it. Sid is, almost certainly, never going to get it. I'd be surprised if he is back next year. He's just a terrible fit for the culture. Hurley said once, after a strong game by Sid, "Sid would play a lot more if he gave us everything he had." Ouch. That was code for, "Sid's mental game is as weak as his athletic game is strong."
If you break the rules, you don't play.
We live in a world of constant accommodation of non-conforming snow flakes. Thank the Lord we have Hurley. Love it.
