I will be interested to see if that press conference actually happens. I am guessing not. I have no doubt that Avenatti’s client has information to drop on Nike and that it has value, but Avenatti totally went about this the wrong way. It’s also blatantly unethical for an attorney to seek monetary compensation in a civil matter in exchange for an agreement to remain silent about criminal conduct. The rules of professional conduct specifically say that an attorney shall not attempt to gain an advantage in a civil matter by using the threat of criminal prosecution or complaint to gain such advantage. It’s pretty clear Avenatti didn’t handle this properly.
