    The Con-FLiCT continues with a $1mil one-off payout to Uconn ?
Once approved this gives Uconn FB five known games so far for 2021... (Holy Cross, Purdue at home with Umass, Clemson and UCF on the road) .....Uconn will get $ 2.2 mil for 2 FB road games in 2021 (Clemson and UCF) or approximately the same $2 mil + per year that ESPN is currently paying Uconn & the AAC teams for an entire season of FB and BB games.....SMH ! ( p.s - Uconn FB also has a $1.8 mil road game with TENN in the future too.)

" In their first and only meeting on the gridiron, UConn crushed Liberty 59-0 in East Hartford in 2005. The 2023 contest will mark the first appearance for UConn at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg. "

Dom and I called this( FB independence would be fine) from day 1 of the Big East announcement, when most of the (especially national) " know it all" media types where claiming the end of Uconn FB or that Uconn FB needed to beg the MAC or C-USA ....blah, blah, blah.......
thread from the hoops board : UConn Rejoining Big East

PS. for anyone who forgot what Indy FBS football looked like for Uconn (when they were competitive) and their schedule... welcome back to the future:
    2002 UConn football (3rd year as FBS/ D-1A Independent)
6-6 last year at Memorial Stadium with five P-5 & two current AAC opponents

    2003 UConn football (4th year as FBS/ D-1A Independent)
9-3 first year at the Rent with six P-5 opponents ( Averaged att.- 37,059, with 3 of 6 home games vs. Lehigh, Akron and Western Michigan)

    From the blog:
"UConn already has at least two Power 5 schools on the schedule each year until 2024 and except for 2024, one of those games will be in East Hartford. Schools like Duke, NC State and Purdue will be combined with regional opponents like Boston College, UMass and Army and create a schedule that might not be objectively stronger than one that includes eight opponents from The American, but definitely more relevant to fans, players, and alumni.
Independence is going to be a challenge, between finding 12 games instead of four and securing a television deal to support football in this state, save for the occasional game that gets picked up by ESPN or CBS. However, with the 2020 schedule, Benedict has proved that the creative thinking that is required to keep the UConn football program afloat is there. Finally, lest we forget, the rest of the school’s sports are moving into a league that makes way more sense, and will ignite the basketball programs. Football was always the question mark, with independence striking fear in the eyes of many. This latest news shows it could work out just fine."

Also regarding bowl tie-ins don't look now but:

"At 1-10, postseason isn’t a concern for the 2019 Minutemen, but even if they were 10-1 they could have been left out because all of the bowls were contractually required to invite somebody else...... Access to bowl invitations is one of the most attractive things about conference affiliation as bowl invitations are mostly tied to conferences......In a move that improves the long-term viability of their status as an independent football program, UMass is expected to announce bowl tie-ins for the next six seasons. .....AD Bamford said ESPN was involved "

Can a deal with Uconn be far behind ?

New article on Uconn's life as an independent:
" What it all amounts to is the Huskies being an attractive opponent for Power 5 members which means its schedule strength as an independent will be stronger than UMass’s. If UConn (who is already power team to the B1G- their list ), like BYU, can obtain even unofficial “Power” status, even more Power teams could come calling....While this would boost the Huskie’s own schedule strength and therefore make winning games (and returning to the land of .500) more difficult, on the plus side it would put them in a far better position in terms of negotiating TV revenues and bowl tie-ins. It amounts to an opportunity to regain some of what is naturally lost by not having a conference to partner with."

Link to future games from FBS schedules >>>>Future UConn Football Schedules

ps. I guess Randy moving up Uconn's spring FB schedule to before spring break for the 2nd year in a row( with no spring game ) has turned out to be prophetic with all the college FB activities, many schools who have just started, being cancelled...( along with every thing else)
